Scan stops at 3% and wont run in safemode

Hi i have avast on 2 computers have been using it since 2014 and buy the updates. recently i got the trial version for my partners pc as i had to do a reinstall of windows 8 for him. When i left the scan run last night i came down in the morning and it was on 3%. i stopped it but it froze his computer so i tried running it again in safe mode and it said no endpoint available or something along that lines. so again i tried to run it on normal mode and low and behold its stopped now on 3% for the last 2 hours.

I dont have spybot running or malewarebytes the only thing on the desktop is Avast and printer.
Any help on this would be great

Check the log file and see where (at what point) it stops.

Hi Eddy it stops on different files but seems to be the fonts folder this time

Did you install all updates for Windows ?
What exact version of avast ?

Its avast Premier
and yes all updates installed as far as i know. it did an update and is now asking me to go to windows 10

just a note when i try to stop it it freezes everything even Task manager wont open

Have updated to windows 10 just to see what would happen and it now stops on 9% :(

Since you upgraded to Windows 10, perform a clean installation of the latest avast version.
