Hi have just bought a two year licence for VPN...

It says it is registered, the licence is good.

I can not connect to any VPN server anywhere.

I am using OSX 10.9.5 on a top end macbook pro, it s a clean machine fully licenced in every dept.

VPN just will not work, I have tried it on different connections, and they all offer the same problem, can not connect.

NSURLErrorDomain error -999

I don't want to go for a refund, but this is mission critical and I don't have time for something that simply does not work. Of course I will require a refund if there is not a solution, paypal is poised. I can't find one, i just find people who seem to be having problems.

Any offers will be much appreciated.

Flush your DNS and see if it solves the problem.

Thank you for that idea.

I ran
Quote
sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
in the terminal.

Made no difference I am sorry to report.

I'm not a MAC person but I did found this > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-7391
I don't know if it will help, but have a look at it.

If it isn't solving things, wait for someone else who knows more about MAC's to step in.

Thanks Eddy, that is a useful page. I saw it earlier, I do my best to solve a problem before I cry for help :-)

Unfortunately it does not quite answer the problem as  I have no idea what destination I need to add to the 'white list'. I imagine they change all the time.

I would be very happy to get this sorted. Any more suggestions very welcome.

Started working this morning for no apparent reason, after a few attempts to connect. I will report back on how stable it is, I am not holding my breath, but I do have my fingers crossed.

Good to hear it is working.
Let's hope it stays working now.

Did you reboot or restarted avast/the vpn or something like that ?

I rebooted a few times last night, I was trying until 3.30am CET.

I also rebooted the router, cleared every DNS cache etc. It did not work.

This morning the laptop was started up, and after a couple of attempts the VPN worked, connected to London.

It does not appear to stay on, curious to know what one has to do to make it stay connected and to switch on when the computer is used online.

My currently immobile wife has serious business interests that require client confidentiality, and in our new home we are surrounded by numerous wifi clouds of dubious provenance, hence buying the VPN sub for two years to avoid any sensitive information getting sniffed out, or a wifi connection that is spoofed.

We have no interest in torrents or anything like it, we are simple folk who just want guaranteed privacy of our financial information.

Now today it does not connect to anything. I am sure that it is nothing at my end, considering that it worked all day yesterday.

This is worse than useless, no stable connection or no connection at all.

I did contact support, they were swift and suggested that I submit a support package, which they looked at again very swiftly, which is appreciated.

As far as they could see there was a problem with the internet connection, I had already tested the laptop on more than one network, and also had another Mac running ElCapitan which connected to the VPN using a trial licence with no problem using the exact same router etc.

The only difference between the two machines (as the laptop was a clone of the iMac) is that I upgraded the iMac to elcapitan and not the MacBook Pro. This was not suggested by support as a solution but I tried it anyway having found elcapitan to be quite good and problem free on the iMac.

So I upgraded OSX on the laptop to elcapitan, it now seems to work. Didn't want to speak too soon, but on day two and it is still functioning.

If anyone else has the same problem I hope this helps.
