Is Open Candy still bundled with Avast Free install? If so can I get rid of it or do I need to re-install Vast and uncheck some option? Thank you for your time.

avast doesn't come nor came with any malware.

and OpenCandy is not malware but a PUP >> https://www.virusbtn.com/resources/glossary/potentially_unwanted.xml

avast PUP detection is default off, so turn it on if you want PUP detection
