For 2006 you need proactive technologies
« on: December 28, 2005, 08:19:10 PM »
Hello forum members,

We are awaiting the new year 2006. Users will need proactive technologies which can block malicious code in its tracks without the need for updates, but by analyzing them. Why?

Well the threats in 2006 will be different, because of a shift in malware authors' motivation. Their main goal now is "dough". So certainly we will see less large scale virus outbreaks.

Silent threats are liable to be the main malicious present in 2006, installing themselves unnoticed and acting without users being aware they are there.

We will see more Backdoor Trojans, allowing backdoors to be opened on computers through which the operating system can be remotely controlled. This to allow theft of confidential data, installation of malicious code or attack on other computers.

Keylogger Trojans, used to register keystrokes made on a computer, frequently used to collect users' bank data.

Bot Trojans and worms, which allow malware to be downloaded
or to turn a computer into spam spewing zombies.

Spyware, mainly generating finacial returns through sale of tracked data about users' Internet habits.

Phisphing and pharming, two online types of fraud technology becoming more and more widespread lately.

And all this malware will be more sophisticated and more complex as we have seen through 2005.

I wish you a malware free 2006,

polonus

Cybersecurity is more of an attitude than anything else. Avast Evangelists.

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!

Yep,

it seems that all the users should became "experts" in security to have their systems protected because every year we see new ways to be infected with files that damage our system, slow it and share our privacy data...

Fortunately, some security companies are making a great job to improve their products and also making them easy to use... ;)
Avast Free Antivirus: Web Shield & Home Network Security.
