webshield proxy settings (home edition)
« on: December 30, 2005, 11:02:47 AM »
I followed tutorial on the web for setting up the webshield settings in internet explorer. And when I was done I could browse with internet explorer. (The page cannot be displayed) then I changed the port from 2080 to 12080. (Settings for fire fox) And then I could access the internet.

Does anybody knows why this happens?

(PS... I also noticed that the webshield scans without using proxy)

I assume you are using Win95/Win98/winME or using Zone Alarm Pro? Otherwise there is no need manually set the browser.

Because the correct port is 12080 (for all browsers), the port number in the video looks truncated as it only shows the last four digits following the full input you would have seen the port number starting with 1.

What do you mean by "(PS... I also noticed that the webshield scans without using proxy)?" It uses LocalHost proxy 127.0.0.1

well.. I left the proxy empty and saw in the protection consol->webshield that he scans the sites that I visit.

I am not using a firewall atm... but will be using kerio soon.

At the moment your data and system are at risk, a firewall is an essential part of your system security.

What OS are you using? Up to date I hope?

Glad to read that you are going to use Kerio firewall, I have used it since 4.2 came out and never found any conflicts with Avast!  ;)

Now the firewall is part of Sunbelt, they are offering a great deal for the full (paid) version at $14.95 http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm  :)

I am using windows xp.. (I first had northon 2003 fire wall) I had service pack 2 but somehow I really hated sp 2 XD.. But yesterday I tried to install it again (don't ask me why :D) But then I got an error.. Acces denied.. (translated) This time I am going to use windows update instead of downloading the file from the download center..

And I update my system enough. When I am at my home I am going to install kerio (that is in 1 hour)..
