Eurosport @W-PC and @Chromebook [Resolved]
« on: March 12, 2016, 06:12:16 PM »
Hi, if I surf to www.eurosport.nl (dutch edition) Eurosport @Windows pc is okay.
But, doing the same @Chromebook pc it's quite different!
Both pc's are using Google Chrome as webbrowser.
Note: this issue occures since a couple of weeks before that everything was ok.
Screenshot chromebook enclosed.
I do look forward to hearing from you, thanks in advance.

Kind regards, Hermie

I don't use a Chromebook, so I have no idea what security you may have on it as that could interfere with it.

Looking at your image and the reference to Privacy Badger and the fact the page layout seems screwed up, might that have an impact if it is blocking something.

For me viewing that page in windows XP with avast and firefox (with No Script and RequestPolicy addons) at first my view looks a little like yours, no layout or images. Giving the site permissions in NoScript and RequestPolicy resolves that and the page is displayed correctly.

So my best guess is you also have some sort of browser add-on that is blocking the layout and images. What that might be I can't say.

I suggest that you try disabling your add-ons one at a time and see if one of them is the issue. I would start with Privacy Badger first and see if that makes a difference, then ABP next.

I use ABP odd-on in firefox and for my checking of that site I didn't do anything with ABP permissions, so I don't believe that is getting in the way.

Thanks @DavidR for your reply.
I disabled Privacy Badger and WOW you're right, now everything works just fine, thank you.
Screenshot enclosed, ABP and WOT still enabled.

Kind regards, Hermie

You're welcome.

Yes, having disabled just the one at a time pinpoints the culprit, if you had disabled them all it would have worked, but you wouldn't have found the real culprit.

Now you have to look at Privacy Badgers settings and see if you can exclude eurosport.nl if it something you view on a regular basis. This presumes that there isn't anything privacy related on the site.

Okay DavidR, I will enable Privacy Badger and go through the settings.
Strange: on my windows machine WOT, ABP and Privacy Badger are enabled and the Eurosport website shows up well.
Stay tuned, I report asap, thanks.

Best, Hermie

Hi @DavidR, thanks a lot for your help, which is highly appreciated by me.
I have enabled Privacy Badger from eff.org, the eurosport website did NOT show up well, then I changed settings, and eurosport showed up well.
Issue solved, thank you!

Kind regards, Hermie

Although the name is the same (Chrome browser on both systems) they are working entirely different.
That is because the difference between the OS's used.

You can buy 2 cars brand A, model B.
But one has a diesel engine and the other one has a gasoline engine.
The look the same but they are not ;)

Thank you @Eddy.
So Privacy Badger behavior is dependable on the O.S.
In my case Windows 8.1 and Chrome O.S.
Just wonder, does PB behave different on a Mac computer?

Kind regards, Hermie

The behavior should be the same.
At least that is the intention.
But the way the application is working is different.

Lets say there is a book explaining something (database)
It depends on your language how you read the book.
I can be wrong with the following, but it is just me trying to explain it in a simple way ;)
Western people read from left to right.
Arabs read from right to left.
Japanese read from top to bottom

The book (database) is telling the same in all languages.
But the language (os/application) defines on how to read it.

I hope this makes sense.  :)

Same is with websites.
A website is a website.
A browser is a browser.
But not every browser shows the website in the exact same way as other browsers do.
