If you want/need help, follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB33#artTitle

This topic has been discussed in this forum and popular forum like Reddit for months, Avast stuff knows it for sure, they just don't want to fix it. Then it is simple, choose another free antivirus, how can be be more simple than this. No human can accept a screwed up taskbar windows 10 no matter how good Avast protection could be.

Not here to debate just report. Recently had the bug with Windows 10 creators x64 (all up to date). Removed Avast (current free version)... is now good. That is all.
What version of Avast and what version of Windows 10 ???

Good Morning.
i have the same problem.
I bought a new laptop, everything was running smoothly. On the second day all of a sudden the taskbar was not responding anymore. The start menu does not open up, the search field neither and I cannot open pictures, receiving the error code 2147249195.
2 days in, I went nuts, scoured the internet for solutions, powershell, repair tool,.. tried everything I found - nothing worked.
Then i found a link that obviously many avast users have this issue, so i unistalled it and everything was working fine.
Full of hope I followed your instructions to clean install the premium version again, what i did, entered the code, restarted, and all the problems are back.
This time I tried to repair avast and was told it is when finished, but it isn't.
So is this issue really more than 4 year old and still not fixed?
Whats completely confusing: on my old laptop I did not have these issues.
So what am I doing wrong and how can I fix it?
I want to keep Avast as I am a long term customer with other licences as well and was really happy with it untill yesterday.
many thanks in advance!
Sven

Well a lot has happened in four years, operating system and avast, that is the problem in breathing life into a long dead topic.  If it was going on for four years then this subject and topic would still be very active.

A similar issue more about the Search function in a more more recent topic https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=296933.0 - see if that helps.

If not post in that topic (or create a new one) and give more detailed information:
1. Operating System and version number.
2. Avast program and version/build number.
3. Are you getting any error messages or just no actions.

Also see this search I ran - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=taskbar+is+not+responding+anymore - lots of hits on that search.

Hey David,
many thanks for your reply!
I started looking up the issue without connecting it to Avast and have been on many sides and have tried a lot of the suggestions, but none worked. Spend about 3 hours on it yesterday.
Today i stumbled over a post that Avast is the connection. When i removed/uninstalled Avast it was working properly again and when i installed it again, the problem reoccured.
So I think i figured out the direction I have to look in.

1. Windows 10 Pro, version 20H2
2. Avast premium security 21.6.2474 (Build 21.6.6446.683)
3. no error messages, clicking on the window symbol to open the start menu it is "shrugging" for a split second but nothing happens.
If i click into the search box, the same, without the shrugging, nothing happens as if the search box wasn`t even there.
Yesterday I had additonal problems with the calender and notification area. but thats gone (I hope so) and working now.

I hope you have any ideas.
many thanks,
Sven

modify: and I am unable to open pictures with "Fotos" the window opens, but simply white. Yesterday I received an error code (Dateisystemfehler (-2147219195)
Right click and open with "Paint" wors well though.

As David stated, reviving an old topic is not a good idea.
Start a new topic and give us as much information as possible
about the problem and your system.
