Where from I can download and install 64-bit Avast Internet Security? RESOLVED

1. Installed using avast_internet_security_setup_online.exe (4934 KB)
2. Avast site did not ask me if I wanted 32-bit version or 64-bit; hence, I assumed Avast system would identify the Windows installation on my computer and download/install accordingly
3. 32-bit Avast system got installed on 64-bit system of my computer
4. How to rectify the situation?
5. What would be the link to use and what would be the file name?

Please help me understand what Avast is trying to say in the attached screen-shot taken from Avast Website.

Avast has a single installation, setup file.

When installed on a windows 64bit OS then it will install the required 64bit drivers, etc. only the elements that are required to be 64bit will get installed. The remainder have no need to be 64bit they would remain 32bit.

Any how your answer and the previous gentleman's answer, both contradict each other.

I did read it, the installation file is compatible for 32bit and 64bit OSes.

You can't install 32bit low level drivers on a 64bit OS, so as I said those elements that need to be 64bit are, the remainder are 32bit.

You can run 32bit programs on a 64bit OS (provider there is no requirement for low level drivers).

There is no contradiction - there is no native 64bit avast installation file - the file is a combined installation file.

We both say that there is no 64 bit version, only a 32 bit one.
Just because a small part of a application is 64 bit doesn't make the application 64 bit.
avast is 64 bit compatible, meaning it can run on 64 bit systems.

Well, then Avast website must be wrong as it categorically mentions of two different versions "*Both the 32 and 64 versions..." (see the red thick arrow in the image). Here it is attached once again.

In response to Eddy's reply "there is no 64-version" (see Eddy on: Yesterday at 08:32:16 PM), I attached a screenshot from Avast website (see mbr on: Yesterday at 08:50:08 PM).
Eddy did not respond to that attachment. Instead, DavidR attempted to explain the issue differently without commenting on my attachment reproduced from Avast Website.
The contradiction was between Eddy's categorical statement (which was in variation with Avast Website declaration) and DavidR's reply (which was differently presented).
While Eddy maintained that there was no 64-version, DavidR attempted to clarify that single version comprises both and does its job depending on the installed version of the operating system on PC.
You would realize that two are different: Eddy's no and David's comprises both. One is negative and the other is affirmative. And, that is where contradiction takes place.

Yes, the statement at Avast website (image reproduced) needs to be rectified so that it does not remain misleading.

There is a lot on the avast website that needs to be corrected.

This is just one of the many things.
They need to say something like "the 64 bit compatible version".

Another thing is that they still say that they are protecting over 230 million systems.
But if you look at their own statistics it is just over 220 million (they are loosing users rapidly)

I have understood the correct situation. I also checked two folders "Program Files and Program Files (x86)". I found the folder "Avast Software" in "Program Files" folder, not in "Program Files (x86)" folder. This puts at rest all concerns, and confirms David's explanation.

I didn't look at these folders earlier because Task Manager showed it as 32-bit (screen-shot attached) and that was at the root of all confusion. Perhaps that was referring to Ant-virus only, but couldn't be sure.

By the way, I would want to thank you for the information (global stats > devices in the avast ui) which I need to keep a tab on, from time to time.

I read your image in Reply #7 differently to you.

The * asterisk after the OSes listed indicates a note/expansion later on.
The bottom line beginning with an * asterisk is that expansion - it is saying both the 32- and 64.bit versions of the OS are supported. Not that there are 32bit and 64bit versions of avast.
