secureline vpn separate license for android and Windows?
« on: March 14, 2016, 08:29:58 PM »
Hello

Secureline VPN - do I have to purchase separate license for Windows and Android?  And do I need a separate license for every PC or Android device?

Would like to buy one license and be able to use on both my PC's plus my phone and tablet.  Or is a separate license needed for each?

Thank you
Paul

No, but if you have e.g. a license for Windows, you can only use it on 1 Windows device at a time.

At the moment, there are separate purchases needed for each platform.  However, we are working on cross-platform licensing now and hope to have it released in the near future

Best regards,

Hi Davidek :)

That is what ( more of ) you guys/developers told me almost a year ago too !
What exactly is ' the near future ' from your perspective ?

Hi Red,

To be honest it will still be a few months.  There is an option now to add other licenses in the checkout when you buy the PC license.  I know it isn't totally comfortable but it is a way to bundle the app purchases together.

We are implementing a new licensing system across Avast so SecureLine is just one part of that and that's why it has taken longer.

Hope this helps

Hi Davidek :)

That is a disapointing answer to be honest ...

In a little over 30 days I have to renew my 1 PC ( 2 years ) SecureLine license, and you guys are charging me the same than as two years ago.
I am using both SecureLine for PC and iOS ( almost ) from the beginning, but loyalty can have its limits a well.
Make me an offer I can't refuse ;)

Greetz, Red.

P.S. I have to say that one of your Devs did something for me with my iOS license last year :)

Hi Eddy,

I am big fan of Opera :)

The problem is that the PC version of Opera isn't offering a real VPN.
And the iOS version is collecting user data, and will most likely offering advertisements in the ( near ) future.
That said : I like the iOS - as a free version.

Hi Rednose,

A couple other things along the lines of the multi-platform license.  The price is definitely being evaluated now and it's likely that there will a reduction.  Also, we are going to be more flexible with the licensing on the platforms.  Meaning, before we have the cross-platform licensing you'll be able to use the license on multiple devices on the same platform.  Not exactly what you are looking for but steps in the right direction we hope in making the product easier to use

Davidek :)

But what will be the consequenses if I buy a licence for Windows before the changes are implemented ?
Again : Make me an offer I can't refuse ;)

Lol Eddy :)

I am trying to challenge Davidek, as I know different Avast Departments were/are not working well together.
At least that was given as an explanation to me last year, for not offering multi-platform licenses.

Hi Red,

There probably won't be any consequences.  We are looking at offering a single license (seat) for 1 platform and then a multi-seat "family pack" where you could use the same license on any 5 devices you wish, without any restrictions to platform or concurrent sessions.  It isn't written in stone but this is what we are considering.

The current price for a single seat on desktop platforms will be lowered.

As far as making you an offer...we always need more beta testers on SecureLine.  And I'm sure we could work out a license extension or something else agreeable :-)
