« on: March 17, 2016, 05:14:38 PM »
Hi Avast team,

May I know whether Avast can detect "Ransomware"  or not and make defense ?

It seems the infected ratio raising quickly.

Thanks !

Whilst avast does detect various Ransomware it isn't 100% as these things are continually evolving, so it is a game of catchup.

There are other specific tools geared up especially ransomware - CryptoPrevent comes to mind although I don't personally use it.

In addition to what David has already suggested/stated, Anti Ransomware programs "specialize" in Ransomware variants; another one worth mentioning is Malwarebytes Anti Ransomware (beta) which I have been testing, is also available.  :)

there seems to be a new ransomware that seems impossible to crack - http://www.myce.com/news/new-teslacrypt-ransomware-version-impossible-crack-78889/

It still is possible with brute-force, but it will take "some" time if you try.
