Forcing users to have SafeZone Browser installed silently (that's the way malware and PUP act!) has already become a great disaster for Avast, I don't understand why you continue to promote this... it's getting worse every day. And I don't believe that you really could think that most users would be happy with having no choice.

I can agree with almost all this user says:
I too came here to see what's going on. To sum it up, I find it unpleasant because:

1: You install secretly, no mention, no prompt, but without my knowledge or consent. And what comes to mind when I think of programs secretly installing, it's viruses, worms, cryptoware software, ads, basically a whole host of bad things that I try to use my common sense + stuff like avast antivirus to protect myself against. So most people are upset because their trust(protecting) got violated by doing something we actively search protection against.

2: You know people would react like that, or you should've known, being a security company especially. I know why you did it silently and act surprised that people are 'offended'. And that is because opt-in will get you a lot less installations than opt-out. People who complain on this forum will delete the new browser themselves, they have the interest to delete it, the knowledge and are motivated to do it. But the regular user, they will not want to go through the trouble of uninstalling this part of the antivirus(probably also afraid they are actually uninstalling their entire browser). And of course with opt-in a lot of regular user would still have chosen not to install it.

3: Regardless of what it says in the EULA, I do not consider this an ethical move from a security business. I do not have the right to complain in a sense since 1: this might be covered in the eula(although this is most likely still illegal in my country, regardless of what the eula claims) and 2: this is a free program. But still, it's annoying.

4: I do hope however that this product of yours is not another company's attempt to gather information about us, our interest so that it might be used for advertising. And no, I do not believe in "specifically selected, trustworthy, i-swear-they-will-never-do-anything-bad" third parties. I have no proof for this, just saying that I hope that this browser is not the first step in this. Because a browser, unlike other premium features you could've offered for free(firewall etc) is a very personal tool.

5: Anyway, I will still continue using avast for now because I at least have the option to remove the browser afterwards and it does not seem like the core product, the av, got changed.

You're reported to moderators. There's no need for that kind of behavior.

I dont know how to directly reply to a person here, as i cant see the reply button/icon to certain individuals. As for avast picking up safezone as a threat, the reason for this your running JAVA.
I ask again, were you answering to "Shiw Liang" user and the screenshot that shows "JS:ScriptPE-inf[Trj]" infection? JS is short for JavaScript.

Hi,
I use Avast free 11.1.2253 - didn't get an unwanted istallation of SafeZone browser.
In the meantime I got it too.
And I agree with Rednose:
Although I like that SafeZone browser is now available with Avast Free as well, I agree with the users who complain that is was installed withought their approval.
This is simply not how an AV-company should act.

Once it was MY decision to give administrator rights for actualizing my malware program. I didn't give them access to install what they want  :(

This company has now become the most no-listening bunch of ... let me stop there. Hey avast you know where you can slickly slide your browser? Because i have 7 extra copies I don't want. So I'll mail them to you and save a gerbils life. As SOON as possible your AV product hits the dumpster on all these machines because I found it is just as easy to remove your whole product as to just remove the browser for the second and last time. (friend: Hey I was thinking of install an AV, what do you think of avast? Me: NO here let me help you avoid that fricken nightmare of a company). So with that I say good bye.

After the initial outcry, there should have been an option to bypass SafeZone Browser in the inplace upgrade option.  :(

Agreed as some users having got rid of it first time round are getting bitten again.

Personally I would like to see the ability to do a custom update from the avastUI, rather than have to download the full off-line installation file (at 202MB) to do a custom installation over the top of the existing installation.

What's new:
Quote
+ SafeZone browser is now included also in free version
As if people didn't noticed already. >:(

The problem is not the SafeZone Browser, but the way it gets installed.
I already have seen posts from people where it got installed without any notification in the latest version if people update to it while they don't had the SafeZone browser installed in the previous version.

Come on avast, haven't you really not learned a darn thing ? >:(

It is just my opinion, but I say it is time to fire some of the decision makers.

I don't want to see anyone get fired but, they should be made to feel the pinch that Avast certainly is feeling.
How many strikes does it take ???

Don't fire them ?

Come on, wake up.
There are a few decision makers at avast that for years are making the wrong decisions.
They just aren't capable to make the right decisions as it seems.

If they where my employees I would fire them right away.
They are costing me money, but even worse..
They are giving my company a bad name.

My biggest question about including Safe Zone in the free version is this. Where is the incentive to buy a paid product? The firewall? We all know the Avast firewall is pretty useless. It just doesn't seem like a good business decision.

I don't mean to be too cynical, but it occurred to me that avast were desperate to push (literally) this product on everybody,
there must be something in it for them.  Do they collect more data on users, possibly ? And then sell it ?  That could be quite a revenue stream.

When I look at avast, I see a company who appear to have no coherent strategy at all.  Instead, they've done everything to maximize short term
profit.  At some cost to their reputation, I might add.
AMD FX-4300 4GB DDR3
avast free 2279 (Windows XP), MBAM free

They simply don't care.  Avast used to be a reputable company.  Not any more.  By force installing browser safezone, and these annoying popups, each one of the users privacy is up for sale.  I talked to many computer techs about this program and they simply go to something with a better reputation.  Avast listen up, we are tired of having things forced onto our computers.  What you are doing is against the law.

It's simply to satisfy most of the users avast!:

WHEN YOU ADD SOME NEW SOFTWARE GIVE US THE OPPORTUNITY OF CHOOSE IF WE WANT TO INSTALL IT OR NOT
