My mother emailed me this morning asking about some behavior she had seen when entering a credit card number on a shopping site - she said that the numbers she entered were turning into lower case letters on-screen.

She has Avast free installed, and has scanned which has come up clean. I advised her to do an additional scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

I'm wondering if any of the keylogger protection in the Avast web plugin might cause this kind of thing? She's running Chrome.

Apologies, I can't do much scrutinizing as we're in different countries, but thought I'd ask on here if anyone has seen similar behavior?

Thanks

It is likely caused by the script used on the website.
If it is a "trusted" site, I wouldn't worry about it.

avast is not changing characters from upper- to lowercase or visa versa.

Be sure she goes to the correct URL and dont follow a link

you can check URLs for blacklisting here  www.virustotal.com  if scanned before, always click rescan for a fresh result

Or mention the url here (make the link not clickable) and we can/will check it.

Same here! I've seen the same behaviour a few times in the last couple of months, on websites such as PayPal and Royal Bank of Scotland. My computer seems free of malware and so far nobody has stolen my credit card details, but I'm obviously concerned... Does anyone have any advice? (I'm also using Chrome)

I suggest you contact them, they may have some info

You may post that info here when you get it    ;)
