How are you scanning memory?
Just opening avast program?

Do you have any other security program installed and running in your computer?
Another antivirus, or an antispyware?

Well i scanned by starting the antivirus scan, and then it woudl tell me that the memory is infected and that i should restart the computer and do a scan then. so i did that a couple of times but it would still tell me the memory is infected.
I also tried microsoft antispyware which supposedly removed a couple of trojans, spyware and spysheriffs, but avast would still tell me that there the memory is infected. what to do?  ???
this is for my friend's computer and apparently he didnt have ANY antivirus software until i downloaded avast for him...

If you can give the exact virus name and the exact name of the file, this will help in identifying and resolving the problem. Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast icon) Warning section.

What is your Operating System?
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

what he might be able to do is clear (I'm assuming he's using IE) the cache, since there might be a few trojans stored there - this has happened as occassionally they are just downloaded from websites.  Although, if they are in the memory maybe they shouldn't delete?  Did you try running a boot time scan?

I am not clear on when he is scanning memory ... avast program start-up or computer start-up. Perhaps if he set Avast to scan memory on Computer Start-up that would help?    ???

 :)  hakimovicz :

If your friend's computer had "Spy Sheriff" on it, more than
Microsoft Antispyware program is needed to COMPLETELY
REMOVE IT and any other spyware, etc that may be there.
