Hi Neal63,

Why is Microsoft growing those long teeth, especially where IE version is concerned?

Microsoft ended up having to extend support for 98 through summer 2006 a while back.  Do you think they are really going to dump XP in Dec 2006?    Doesn't matter.  It will just give me enough to reason to install Linux on that last machine still running XP.  Go ahead Microsoft, I dare you.

Hello,

A lot of people bought new PC's at the end of 2005 and beggining of 2006 those that just bought them most likely came with XP Home. If Microsoft does this they will have many unhappy costumers.

Actually, it seems the problem of Microsoft this time is not about their support policy but their communications.  Also, an article from ZDnet UK

However, in larger scope, some people see Microsoft "computer tax" is an abuse of intellectual property/patent law.

LOL i think this is funny (sorry but i do) if a company like Apple Corp. did this nobody would complain sure people mght be  a little upset. Because Microsoft is such a large Corporation (monopoly) everyone gets upset when they change the OS. XP has been out for 5 years i think that is long enough. I am sure I won't upgrade to Vista because not sure my new computer will take it 512 MB Ram, and I'm not replacing it soon because I just got it at the end of last year. Also see here. http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=3221

Yes, XP is old but MS still sucks.  What makes you think their next premiere OS is going to be anything other than a security failure.  I find it hard to understand how a piece-of-junk is so popular.  It is the equivalent of everyone going out and buying a brand new car only you can't get the key out of the ignition.  Stupid with a capital S.

There was no miscommunication on Microsoft's part.  They made the announcement for a purporse so they could measure the response.  Then they turn around and state is was all a big miscommunication on their part.  BS.

XP is my last Windows OS.

Neal's article says it all, apparently (from the articles) SP3 will go out sometime in 2007 and 2007 will be the last year for XP support.

Hello,

The support for Windows XP Home Edition will end 2 years after the next release of Windows. So with this info we can assume that they release it at the end of 2006 so XP Home Edition Support will expire at the end of 2008 in 2 years. Not 2007.

Hello,

I will most likely start using Linux now. But the problem I am having is partitioning my Drive is there any free software out there that will help me do this?

The three main distros for Linux (SuSe, Fedora, Mandriva) all have partitioning  process during the install.  There may well be others as well like Ubuntu.

That might be your opinion. It's not one that I share.... :)
But, we are all allowed to have our own opinions. That what makes the world go round. ;D
It's also what makes us individuals.
