I'm having same problem as huzirt99. Computer starts OK with Avast uninstalled. Gets stuck starting even with fresh Avast install. Win7. Avast Free has been on computer for 3 years.
Follow the instructions posted by Asyn.
I can't because computer would not start with Avast installed. So I uninstalled Avast when in Safe Mode.

Am I correct that to follow those instructions you have to have Avast installed?

First it would be advisable to take this issue into your own new topic (and people can try to help you) as it will become buried in this large topic

No you don't have to have it installed at the start of the clean reinstall process as you have uninstalled it. You need to download the uninstall utility and run that (it will handle the boot into safe mode) and when complete reboot into normal mode.

Now you can install the version of avast.

Download the avast uninstall utility - http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility.
Download your version from the links at the start of this topic https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=185199.0.

If you still have questions then please start your own new topic and we can continue.

It isn't new just that they are using an internal build number and not the official release program version 11.2.2261

Nah, even the official download says v11.2.2732.
Just check the properties of 'avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe'.

That is because it too is using the build number not the program version. This is the first time (which I can recall) that the build number and program version have differed. And confusing as hell.

The program version is clearly stated in the About Avast image I posted.

Confirmed.
I just installed it (which unfortunately has become quite a challenge these days) and it's v11.2.2261.

I received the following pop up

Once I selected it all I get is this:

It wasn't till I closed this and then reopened the UI that I saw the following:

The updater definitely has a problem with the flash updates:

Aren't Flash Player updates for IE handled by Win10/Windows Update now ?
Which is probably why it is having hassle.

It should probably not check for those updates on a System that's running Windows 10. :)

I would say that should be the case, if the win10 windows updates definitely handles plash player updates for IE. I can't confirm, not being a win10 user.

I wonder what the flash player update policy is in relation to flash player in Edge. Also if it uses the activeX or plug-in version of flash player or if it doesn't use flash player, but HTML5 covering it.

I can attest that both IE 10 and 11 and Edge flash updates are covered by Windows Update in Windows 10.

HTML5 is not yet available for Edge at this time and the flash version used in Edge is the active-X version.  Hope this helps.

As far as using the avast software updater directly, I don't do that, but go instead directly to the vendor's site to get the updated file required.  Doesn't matter what is reported as insecure, procedure is the same for all.
