It breaks my heart to read those comments, especially given most of them come from our most loyal users (some of them with Avast for 10+ years!).

I understand that any forward-looking statement about upcoming improvements will likely not sound very credible at this point, so let me just say that I will personally do my very best to win RejZoR (and all others who have left us) back. And I think I will need y'all's help with fixing the 'mess' -- do you think you could help us?

Thanks
Vlk

I think we might as well give up waiting.

There hasn't been any follow up reply from Avast regarding the situation at all.

I asked VLk by e-mail a while back telling how i think they should listen to us and that they might be headed in the wrong direction on the way they are kinda doing things.. (at least thats my opinion)

We actually have a bunch of improvements in the pipeline, so timing is a bit strange (with all the stuff happening on the forum) but I totally think we're headed in the right direction.

And which of us customers believe that?

I would like to know what this stuff is thats coming up :) I hope not more bloatware but instead automated exploit protection, automated crypto protection and similar. And better anti-phishing too.

I don't know if it's related or not.. but two/three weeks ago when I've reported some new malwares not detected from avast, they took at least two/three days to add them to the virus database. Instead, some days ago, I've reported two new fresh malwares and in both cases they were added to the avast virus database in a couple of hours..  :)

Nice to see, maybe there was a reason behind it taking so long like a messed up automated analysis system or Updates to it so it was
unavailable.

Personally, given his position in "the company" I wouldn't expect him to say anything but that!
Come to think of it in all the years I've been on the forum I don't believe I have seen VLK say anything negative against "the company" or the direction taken over the last several years
Please correct me if I'm mistaking.

That's a very vague statement - what improvements are we going to see?

Just by having some improvements doesn't necessarily mean that they will work and take Avast to the right direction.

This all was said when AutoSandbox came in, same for Deepscreen and even NG.

Sad to see RejZoR go.  I will miss him.  I do understand how he feels.

However, I'm about to update to the current version Free, BUT...  I've found only the File Shield and Home Network Security are necessary.  Yes, I'm Old School, I don't see the need for all the addons, just like when Opera aped Netscape to produce an "Internet Suite" which--after all was said and done--was less functional than having all separate programs specialising in their primary function.

So...  ATM I'm happy with Avast!, it seems to be protecting my box and network quite happily with my minimal settings, and using the exclusions to--sadly--"protect" some files from the AV.  The hosts file comes to mind...

As long as the File Shield works, I'll be a free-loader!

Gordon.

Webshield is the shield that detect the infected websites before the malicious code enter your computer ....

Thanks for all the feedback -- often harsh but not unjustified. We have some interesting news coming soon.
In the meanwhile, I will close this thread as I feel that after 10 pages full of discussions, the message is pretty clear and there's no need to flog a dead horse...

Thanks
