Unchecking The Browser Protection Module
« on: April 13, 2016, 02:47:01 AM »
I am aware that the AOS and SafePrice extensions can be removed by unchecking the Browser Protection module.

Just for my own information: Should 'Browser Protection' remain checked for security purposes or is the module unnecessary and unimportant?

It is up to you to decide if you want it or not.
Browser Protection is just one of the layers of total security.

Not unnecessary and unimportant, it differs in what it is looking for - many avast users can report on sites that they visit - this collective information can be used when using a search engine, google, etc. as to the sites safety/reputation, etc.

When you are at a site you can check for more information by clicking on the AOS browser icon and it expands the view, see attached image.

The primary web protection is provided by the Web Shield, you should be just fine with that.

Why keep in in Avast then, it not needed?  Its just more bloatware, and an intrusion on a user's privacy.

It has nothing to do with the privacy of a user.

A lot of things on a system are not needed, still they are there.
Some people want them, while others do not.
If you don't want something, don't install it or when already installed, remove it.
