Happened again when updating to 11.2.2262. Disabling automatic program update from now on.

Changing Program updates to 'Ask when an update is available' was honoured for me. I got notified in the UI (Popup) of 2261 that an Update was available and that was for 11.2.2262. That at least lets you know an update is available were a Manual update setting wouldn't.

After installation/update you should get a screen on restart about chrome, unchecking the chrome options worked fine for me.

I don't want to do manual updates nor do i want to see this screen when it automatically updates (and i don't want my non tech savvy parents or friends to get it and ask me or just press Continue on anything jumping on them). I don't like pushing Chrome on me. So i decide not to update.

If you don't get this screen then you would get Chrome installed as the option is pre-checked.

Surely at some point you are going to update the program having a security based application that you don't update king of defeats the whole point of having it.

Your system your choice, but I'm done.

Definitions are still updating. Yeah, i will probably update it once a year or something :) That's my choice indeed. Not the Avast deciding for me. And is still believe there should be a way avoiding this during the upgrade.

I'm not using Internet Security, just the Antivirus. I would probably be safe without the AV at all. I understand that application update can be important too, although say Symantec releases its program updates once half a year (Avast is also not releasing updates every day, so it doesn't seem so critical). But i choose to only update definitions in this case as the distraction is higher than the value that this application provides to me.

85% of all infections come through the Internet. I don't know what you  mean by not using internet security but if you're referring to the webshield, then you are leaving
your system exposed to the greatest dangers.

85%? Where did you get that number? It should be around 100% now :) Again, i've made my choice. I don't want my browser clogged by AV add-ins/bars/shields. Modern browsers use reputation services, they update often to fix known vulnerabilities and no webshield will save you from zero day malware. And as the article above shows, sometimes you maybe even more exposed by using outdated/bugged web shields. Then browsing habits. I rarely browse outside of my usual cycle. There is a chance to get an infection, but it doesn't outweight the every day annoyance of an additional unnecessary load on my system. And what is internet infection? Some script running in the browser and trying to download malware onto your PC, files saved on your disk, files scanned and probably blocked by the AV resident. Granted, after the fact them being saved on the disk.

Your computer your choice. Certainly not mine and not anything I would ever recommend.

So, i have program updates on manual setting. But yesterday and today the main program window jumped forward after a reboot. I suspect after the definitions update. What's up with all this intrusiveness? What's next, Avast will start to remind about itself every 10 minutes? When i asked my mom if she saw this window in her PC, she said yes, and she didn't pay attention to it and just closed it. This way casual users will have a habit to dismiss any window without paying attention. And i don't want her to report me about Avast opening a window after every definitions update either. Sloppy programmers..

Don't blame the programmers.
They are not the ones who make discussions on what needs to be shown or not.
