Avast Internet Security and CPU

After running a full scan nothing changed. It's been 3 days since I created the ticket and I will wait for another 24 hours, if I haven't received any answer AND a solution by then, that will be the end of Avast for me. I will go to BitDefender free which has way better stats from Avast anyway.

@Michael851: Thanks for posting your support ticket. I am reported it to the moderators and one member from avast will assist you. Again, submitting a ticket to avast you won't get a reply from them so fast. It takes around 5-7 working days. Tickets are handled first come first serve basis.

Avast is gone, I installed AVG and my CPU now is running at 3% with Chrome running too. I will clone the disk to a secondary drive and give it a test against malwares etc.

... I just installed a 30 day trial BitDefender Internet Security package, which looks a lot simpler and leaner than Avast.
Checked resources use and found less than 5% of CPU are used when idle!!..
I'll keep it for the 30 days trial, waiting for a fix from Avast IT to this problem, otherwise,
... it's good bye from me too!!

You think that BitDefender is better? It had almost the same stats with AVG. Let me know of your opinion once you have tested it.
After a lockalized scan with AVG free it found more threats than Avast does in my files (files that I trust and are mostly keygens and cracks for some programms I use and of course I add in the exceptions).

We certainly don't condone the use of cracks and keygens.

And my computer is running perfectly fine for the last 5 years and all I changed on the hardware was some extra RAM, and a new CPU fan since the old one wasn't getting enough RPMs and didn't cool it enough. I know that are many out there that they don't like cracks and keygens, but we can't buy all these softwares out there, especially when they cost 1.500 euros EACH!! We have a problem with the performance of Avast, not with cracks, keygens or anything else. And those files probably have nothing to do with Avast (once you add them in the exceptions). If they do, then Avast has a problem if it cannot understand the meaning of EXCEPTIONS.

It seems the problem is solved. Check this out.
1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a program > Programs and Features/Add or Remove Programs
2. Select Avast and click on Uninstall/Change.
3. In the Avast window that appears click on "Modify/Change" > Continue > now untick the following:
- Browser protection
- Avast SecureLine
- Secure Virtual Machine (if present)
- Cleanup (if you don't use it)
- Secure DNS (if present)
- SafeZone (if you don't use it)
4. After that click "Continue" and after changing of the product will finish, restart your computer.

5. Now open Avast and go to > Settings (gear icon) > Active Protection > Web shield (Customize) > Main settings > Uncheck/Deselect the following options:
- Use intelligent stream scanning
- Script scanning

This will only remove few new features, all important Avast features will remain unaffected and the protection level of your machine will remain the same.

Finally, restart your computer.

I re-installed the features again to check which one is messing with my CPU (and changed back the settings of my Web Shield), I haven't installed SafeZone and CleanUp (I never had Secure Virtual Machine) so one of them was messing with my CPU.

... after an unsatisfactory Avast IT response to my ticket on this problem, I have decided to switch permanently to BitDefender Internet Security, since it has been providing me with the same level of protection as Avast BUT without hogging my CPU resources.

It would be nice to know what that unsatisfactory response was so that it can be addressed.
