avast Online scanner problem
« on: January 10, 2006, 07:27:10 PM »
I have not avast on my system now for a while (win was reinstalled, linux died).

I found few new viruses and traid to scan them with online scan.
            353    descript.ion.vir
         4 608    ms32.0ys.vir
     634 880    sdcmon.dll.vir
     206 552    sfcont.dll.vir
  1 762 816    tgcmd.exe.vir
     853 504    tgupdate.exe.vir

If file size is bigger then 512 kb it just not showing page :(
Is it some way to scan bigger files at least just for registred users? Becouse sometimes it is difficult to find if some of files is  known virus for avast if avast is not installed on computer.

hmm...I hope that I not posting in the wrong forum....

What about testing other on-line scanners that include avast in their scannings?

Jotti
Trendmicro
Virustotal.

But I agree with you that the limit for on-line avast scanning is very small...  :-\

Jotti page gonna be often orverloaded, now days.
And I want fast to know what files to send to avast.

not all online scanners show file by file information if them are in one zip archive.

Well VirusTotal is very similar to Jotti and between the two you should be able to check things quickly.

There are also other single file on-line checkers but they tend to be single engine scans so not as good an indication.

I think the avast! online scanner hasn't finished yet, it's still in the beta state so we shouldn't rely on it.

You can see that avast! on my machine and avast! engine on VirusTotal detected a sample but avast! online scanner did not.
