And do something with the build/version numbers, it's a mess right now.

Not enough things removed, Clenup and Passwords  should go as well.

Also, can you please finally remove the idiotic requirement to register free version?

Registration removal was tested some time ago, nothing heard about it since then.

It would be nice if they finally removed it. Then people would hopefully stop complaining about the antivirus trying to scam them into buying paid version, well, that is provided they don't get one of those firewall related "scam" windows :-X or some other example of avasts PR department disasters.

Seems like a good update and nice to see issues getting addressed...

I think the following should be removed - easily seen as bloat:

SecureLine - standalone product
Cleanup - does more harm than good
Passwords - standalone product

I also don't understand why a module of Browser Cleanup is needed... can't the file shield and browser protection remove bad addons?

Regarding the anti-spam add on, I'd rather it be enabled my default - not everyone will have another anti-spam software.

I don't think paid users with Internet Security and Premier will be pleased if anti-spam is advertised as a core feature of the paid suite and isn't installed by default.

@NON: I am not the only one who is facing this issue. There's another avast user here who has confirmed my findings about this bug and also I had Avast Support Tech do a remote assistance on my laptop and also confirmed it. This bug may affect only a limited amount of avast users.
Well, I'm just saying Avast Account is not unnecessary for some people like me.
I don't have any intention to deny there are some issues with it.

The Avast account is very useful.  I see no need to remove it just because a few users have problems.  Far better to fix the problem those users are having.

the browser cleanup was actually one of rare special modules doing quite good job vs modules, addons, toolbars ...

of course it seems completely 'useless' for all the users w/o anything bad in theirs browser :)

but I seen it used vs some infested browsers and it did quite well

@Gopher John: I myself discovered this issue long time back, i think it was from Avast version 8/9 till present and the bug is still present. Last time I heard from avast (few months ago) is that they will redesigned GUI after you sign in into your avast account via the Avast GUI.

The Avast account is very useful.  I see no need to remove it just because a few users have problems.  Far better to fix the problem those users are having.

Good update, but can you please remove Cleanup and SecureLine VPN from the free antivirus.
No need to install it, or remove it if not needed. ;)

I agree - Please remove these 'optional' features from the free version.

BUG ALERT - SecureLine running without permission - After the reboot for the 2016.12.1.2263 update - I now see a new systray app for SecureLine I DID NOT authorize to be running.  I have all 'Tools' OFF - disabled...

I did enter a separate thread for this bug...
It almost appears this feature is now part of the main application - a very poor design choice in my opinion. An app to provide a VPN interface has no business running.  If this VPN app's secure container is some-how used by the AV portion - then put it in a shared DLL - do not make the VPN feature part of the main app. Since a reboot is required to enable a 'feature' - these features should be in their own external DLL/container and loaded on startup.

<snip>

1. It isn't doing anything, it isn't installed and there is a clear sign that it isn't enabled, the circle with bar (no entry, e.g. not installed).

2. For as long as I can remember this is a function that avast already does, enter gaming mode for full screen programs. No idea what you mean by optimize the performance as there are many thing that can be done to optimize performance.

Also is this really something and anti-virus program be doing, changing your system performance, I think not.

I'll return as soon as new cloud based VM scanning gets into the beta branch. Still a lot of things to fix though, but it's moving...

well there is problem with silent running / no pop-up mode

it's really painful to find 'useful' logs about detected / actions done by Avast!

this combined with removal of statistics (temporary until improved I hope)

makes real PITA to figure out what avast! did while in background
