I now must run without any firewall
« on: May 10, 2016, 07:12:51 PM »
I am so lost I don't know where to turn. I now must run without any firewall protection to keep my media center applications talking.

Had AVAST running for years on Win 7 machine that now is my temp, Windows Media Center server  talking with KODI running on an NVIDIA Shield.

A few months ago, I was forced to install another program for my firewall as Avast would not let the KORE, Yatse, or Android TV remote Android Phone applications communicate with the NVIDIA shield no matter how much I played with the Avast firewall. I installed GlassWire for its firewall and all was well for awhile. Every app played nice.

Then, one day while not thinking I clicked on an Avast "update" notice which installed Avast Internet security. Now both GlassWire and even Windows firewall both tell me they are being controlled by Avast and I cannot activate those firewalls.

If I turn on the Avast firewall I not only lose my remote control from my phone but now KODI no longer sees my Win 7 server. As Avast is preventing any other firewall from running my only choice is to run without any firewall.

How do I remove all traces of Avast Internet Security while still leaving my paid for Anti-Virus protection???????????

As I stated, if I go to Control Panel, Firewall, there is a message that AVAST is controlling the firewall and there is no way to activate Windows Firewall. [same exact problem if I attempt to activate GlassWire's firewall]

I want to remove Internet Security as it is preventing me from using Windows Firewall or GlassWire's Firewall.

Using AVAST's firewall prevents all devices in my media center configuration from communicating. No Android phone base remotes will work and my TV system [running KODI on an NVIDIA Shield] no longer sees my Win 7 machine which is running Windows Media Center Server.

SOLVED [for me] Re: I now must run without any firewall

This works for me, YMMV.

I went to the Packet dialog for AVAST's Firewall and played with allowing various protocols pass with mixed results [not all devices could communicate fully] so I simply allowed ALL protocols to pass for the IP Address of my NVIDIA Shield which runs KODI [plus a bunch of other media services].

Hopefully allowing only this IP address to utilize any protocol will not place my system at risk.
