Do I lose notifications such as 'avast has blocked this site', 'trojan horses', etc? If I'm running silent/gaming mode? If so, is it really worth the speed that I gain in exchange for this? I watch youtube, etc. in full screen. But I don't play games or do presentations.

1. Yes you do.

2. First I believe there is no speed gain from enabling silent/gaming mode, in effect it is just removing the interactive actions from avast. Those interactive responses include alerts/warnings/notifications, etc. But I don't believe it is doing anything to actually speed up gaming as far as I'm aware.

There may be other background actions that may cease (though I don't know this for sure), such as the downloading of streaming updates, virus definition updates and possibly connection to and updating your my.avast.com account.

3. Avast detects Full Screen applications and switches to silent/gaming mode automatically so you don't have to do it anyway.

Unchecking this may or may not help in speeding up certain intensive activities.
If you're having a performance problem, it's worth a try.
