Problem message about Certificates and Avast
« on: May 16, 2016, 09:24:10 PM »
I have a problem I can't solve which I've never seen this problem before and I've been on internet for 18 years. It seems to involve Avast and certificates.

A few days ago, I tried to access a certain website I've bought stuff on for years, but saw no place to sign in and could only get to the first picture on the screen about some items to buy, and the next screen I got a half circle thing that went around and when I clicked on it, I could go no further. At the top of the screen in the address bar it says "https" at front of website address. when I click on that,it says "Security Report" "User account control" "This certificate is intended to ensure software came from software publisher, issued to  by Digicertificate code -valid 11/07 /13 to 14/9/2016. Issued by Avast to the name of the company I am trying to order from.

After that, every time I boot my computer, I get a message saying Do you trust your computer to make a change in your settings and whether I say yes or no, the same message comes up every time I boot up again. I don't know much about certificates but it seems Avast is blocking me from getting into the website I am trying to get into, but I am not sure what is going on How can I get rid of this error at bootup from Avast and what does it mean? Also, involved seems to be the website I am trying to access uses https and websites which http which are most website I have, do not have the errors I am getting about certificates.
Sorry for the long message. I probably missed some things. Any help is appreciated.

I use Windows 7 Pro
The latest Avast version
Internet Explorer 11

I am not being asked to change my settings. I don't understand what the problem is that I am trying to figure out or why I can't access a certain website I go on quite often. I can access some pages on the website but can't see anywhere to log on, and when I click onto the page after the main page on that page, there is a circle in the middle which keeps turning around and can go no further, but I can go back and access other pages but some pictures that should be there are blank.

Then I click on the small padlock icon at the top of the website address bar, it says "Security Report" when I click on that, a popup appears which says "Website Identifcation" -below that says "
"Avast Web/Mail Shield Root had identified this site as "www, etc) -under that is "this connection to the server is encrypted".
Next message block says "Certificates" at the top , then "Issued to (name of website) "issued by "Avast web/mail Shield Root" valid 04/02/2016 to 04/02/2017.

I don't understand anything about certificates. I am only interested in why I can't access the website and why is Avast Virus name got to do with any of this?  I emailed the website I want to access and asked if they know why I can't access their website to browse around. I gave them the same information I am giving you and they emailed me back and said they tried to duplicate what I did, but said they couldn't and didn't know why I would have a problem accessing their website and asked if I found out anything from Avast to let them know.

I am still having a problem when I log onto my computer and I usually just get the desktop, but there is a popup from Avast asking f I trust or allow them to change some information or something on the web.  That popup on boot happened around the same time I had the problem about accessing the website, but  may not be related to it. It is too confusing to me.  Maybe I should try "system restore" though that often has never worked for me. I don't know what else I can do.  Should I contact Avast customer service? Thanks.

M.

What EXACT version of avast ?
Attach a screenshot of the pop-up to your next post.
It can help a lot by figuring out what is going on.

The program version of Avast is 2.2262 from what I could find. I had to find out where I would get the version number since I had no idea where to look. I've never had to look up this information
so I don't know any of these things.

I also don't know what screenshot you want or what popup you mean or where to get the screenshot to you and how to upload it to you. I've never uploaded anything to Avast forums before.  You are familiar with these things. I am not.

I made a mistake on the version number of Avast I gave you in the message I just posted. The correct version number is 11.2.2262.

I haven't done a screenshot before as I don't do things like that on my computer. I hope this attachment is what you want and hope I did it right.. It took me a long time to look up and figure out. As I said before this popup or whatever you want to call it, only appears in the middle of my desktop page at bootup. I resized it so it won't show the desktop. As I also said, it's only when you push Yes on that window that you get to know more information and may have no connection to do with the messages I get when I go on the website I can't get in.

It's a message from the Operating System's UAC (User Account Control).Avast updated and the UAC needs confirmation that it's OK. If you trust Avast, and you should, then you need to click on YES.

I've seen it now and then but not about Avast. It usually doesn't appear on the screen at bootup like this time though.

In the screenshot I sent to you, "Hard drive on this computer" it expands to say "C:\Program files\Avast software\Avast\avastui.exe".
But doesn't matter now as I found a solution to getting the website I wanted to get into. actually I could get into it, but there were blank spaces where there shouldn't be.The solution was installing
Firefox which worked fine. It looks like I must have had corrupted files with Avast. The support dept. at the website I had the problem with, said a few days ago try another browser and I thought I don't think it can be Internet explorer 11 as its worked fine for years. But I still have the same essage about Avast when I boot up about "Do you wish the following program to make changes", but when I click on Yes, it doesn't do anything now like before, but the message stays on the screen till I press Yes. I think I need to uninstall free Avast and install it again.

Firefox program says I need to update free Avast when I tried to run it, as it has expired, but not sure what I to do about that. I have Avast free on my laptop with I.E. 11 but not sure if I will keep IE or just use Firefox .right now Ihave both.  Can  you use two free Avast programs? Usually I have Avast on both my laptop which I am using now, and my desktop which is not working for now till  maybe can fix it.

Yes, I knew it was something to do with User Account Control, but it didn't say what they wanted to change on my computer.

It never does. Not for Avast or any other program you use or update. You either trust the programs you use or, find something else you trust.
