Does it mention aswrvrt.sys in the blue screen?  I thought it was disabled by the earlier procedure you tried?

I thought if it was disabled it shouldn't be accessed and therefore should not be a failure point? Perhaps I'm wrong ?

I don't think the system tries to load the contents of \windows\system32\drivers unless they're referenced in then registry

The registry references to all Avast drivers were deleted so windows should not try to start them

If it were me and above I'd do a XP Repair install........after trying all other avenues from the experts here.
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm  ....you need to follow the instructions EXACTLY.........else the process can also REFORMAT your entire HDD.
....but you need an XP O/S CD.....
which seems you are in luck......... https://archive.org/details/HPOperatingSystemCDWindowsXPHomeSP3OEM
