Thanks for the feedback guys! This will definitely stir up the discussion about the boot time scan availability in the product team.
Just to clear things up. In the "new" design, libraries required by the boot time scan are downloaded when user schedules the scan for the first time.

so technically boot-scan is no-go if you have no internet ? (case of first install/first use of bootscan)
or will be there full-offline installer available for such case ?

I agrre with everyone here with respect to boot time scan. This is an important feature and I have used it. Please keep it within the Avast program. As was pointed out before, sometimes the internet is not always available or a virus might have disabled it.

Good alternative would be to decide to install Boot time Scan feature during program installation, just like you select Software Updater, separate shields, Rescue Disk or Browser Protection etc.

It's a bit useless to be asked to install it when you need it in which case connection most likely won't be available because malware tends to kill it or block it.

IMHO, it is useless to have to download it.
You don't know when you need it, but when you need it, you should have it ready to use.

If Avast are so concious of saving space/bloat, I can think of many other features to remove first.

Thanks for explanation, but it's not what user expect when he have a real trouble.
Just imagine, your PC was infected and internet connection was disabled by malware, avast found the virus but can't remove it, so you're going to schedule the boot-time scan, but stuck with no internet...

Meaning, you just can't run it if there are problems with the internet but also if you create a rescue disk and want to use it on a standalone system that is not connected to the internet.

I simply don't understand the 'logic', if any, for such a decision while, as mentioned, other modules are kept that have nothing to so with security (for example: Avast Cleanup).
I just shake my head at this one. ::)
