Cannot Scan, ODBC Errors
« on: April 11, 2006, 05:02:18 AM »
Very odd problems trying to install Avast! on my one PC at home.
Installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled, still getting errors when trying to start any of the protective agents.
Main program window will also not nopen, errors about Splash something.

Here's an excerpt from the Error log.

Any ideas on how to solve this?  Could it be a general ODBC problem on the OS?

changed an option in the INI file to use XML storage, but the providers still will not load correctly.
Perhaps they'll fire up on next boot.

All I really wanted was a normal, "scan this directory for viruses" on-demand scan.  Seems every AV software wants to install all the fancy services and runtime detection stuff.
Anyone know of a simple on-demand scanner, that uses well maintained definitions?

Changing to XML should solve but you need to boot before.
Look, in version 4.7 (in two weeks will be released) the storage method will be changed and most probably you can have this solved.
Since version 4.7.807 a new data storage called SQLT is used by avast!. Both ODBC and XML data storage are now obsolete.
Why don't you try the beta version?

Most probably. Check: MDAC Utility Component Checker...

There's also an MDAC/Jet repair tool...

Are you using any other resident antivirus in your computer? Which one?
avast is not a good non-resident scanner.
Better if you test BitDefender (free), AntiVir (without the residents), AVG (without the residents), ClamWin.
