Who is mow81-002.ff.avast.com? Russia?

I see in my logs that my machine is connecting to mow81-002.ff.avast.com over ports 443 and 53.

When I look up that name, it resides in Russia.  Why would Avast reach out to Russia?

Is this malware posing as Avast?

avast is using servers all over the world, so why not in Russia.
avast does have it's own servers, but also uses servers from others.
All checks show it is a legitimate avast server, so don't worry about it.
