Hi,
tried installing Avast on my older comp a couple of weeks ago (the latest version). Installation went seemingly well, except when it was done my system froze and any restart into normal mode of Windows caused the same kind of freeze. Alas, it's a non-SSE2 system (AMD Sempron 3000+, WinXPSP3) and Avast requires SSE2 - which the installer didn't mention.
Uninstalling through Control Panel (in safe mode, as I cannot boot into normal mode anymore) doesn't work, as for some reason
the installer checks the processor when trying to remove the program, but not when installing. Seriously?
avastclear10r4.exe (the non-SSE2 uninstaller linked to in the FAQ) doesn't work either - it always instantly crashes with the message
"The installer cannot open the SFX Archive 'C:\Download\avastclear10r4.exe' (code 0x3ee) It's probably caused by corrupted Avast Installer thus please try to download the installer again." (see screenshot) Repairing or reinstalling (or redownloading the installer) makes no difference, this is always the end result.
So, how do I manually remove Avast completely?Attached are FRST.txt and Addition.txt since a quick search on the forum told me that those seem to be necessary in this kind of case.
