Your ODD vendor
« on: January 17, 2006, 07:52:00 PM »
Just wanted to know, what do you have (if, it's not secret), because I'm going to change my LiteOn COMBO into DVD+-RW. And it's not because I really need DVD writer, it's because LiteOn drives me crazy. Long story, but... 1st drive totally broke down after 6 months, so it was replaced, but warranty was not prolonged, this one does not writes cd's anymore, errors at the edges of writen media (for eg. 5 from 6 Verbatim CD-R lies inside my trashbin  >:( ). This drive I have only 8 months, but as warranty was not prolonged during replacement... So now it "burns" me crazy! Maybe this poll will help me to choose other vendor, as I'm tired fighting with my ODD.  :-\

Besides, I think this one will be not bad option http://www.samsung.com/Products/OpticalDiskDrive/DVDWritables/OpticalDiskDrive_DVDWritables_SH_W162C.asp as it's not the expensive one...  :-\

Sorry that you are having trouble with your LiteOn drives.    :(

So far, the one I have has worked perfectly  :) ... though it's a bit more noisy than I'd like but was from the beginning.

As you can see from the picture, I use a  Nec DVD R/RW
I also have a LiteOn CD R/RW 52 Speed and like CharleyO find it noisy. Good for burning but not for paying...

I clicked Lite On because I have 2 of those. One is CD RW, the other CD RW/DVD ROM.  I also have a Plextor DVD RW and a NEC DVD RW.

They've all been working great for me.  The Lite On CD RW is at least 4 years old and still going strong (sorry).  The Plextor is probably the highest quality and certainly the quietest  of the drives I have, but was also the most expensive.

I, been using an LG 4163B Dual Layer multi format DVD+-RW for some time, no problems. I went for it because at the time it had several god write-ups, the price was very reasonable and the retail version had a great software bundle.
