Why so few today?

It doesn't mean much since it is not saying anything about the amount of detections added.
30 x 1 new detection = 30 new ones
10 x 5 new detections = 50 new ones
 

Only thing it basically says is "Hé look, the streaming updates are working".

I would have thought you would be familiar with the answer, the number of times this has been posted.

Note Avast has for some time been delivering multiple stream updates as a combined update. If you regularly shutdown your PC overnight (as I do) when you come back on line you get all those you had waiting as a combined multi-stream update counting as 1.

Soon you won't have to worry this when the Stats function goes on Holiday for a complete revamp.
