"Avast Software: Testing Email"
« on: June 15, 2016, 02:59:10 AM »
I've recently started receiving these so-called Testing Emails from "Avast Software" (noreply@avast.com) every time someone sends me a text.  Why is this happening on my Android device?  Which product is causing it?  And how do I stop it?  This has never happened before and only started happening today.

I have anti-theft, mobile security, and battery saver on my phone.

Here is a sample of the kind of email I am receiving.  I don't understand why I am receiving this, especially when I am successfully receiving the texts.

Notification {client_id: "[redacted client ID string]"
type: 3
parameters {
  key: "failedsms_number"
  value: "[redacted phone number]"
}
parameters {
  key: "failedsms_text"
  value: "[redacted text]"
}
4: 1465941864
}
NotificationType.PASSWORD_CHECK_FAILURE
[key: "failedsms_number"
value: "[redacted-phone number]"
, key: "failedsms_text"
value: "[redacted text]"
]

I had the same problem.
I realised for every sms that I received on my android, an email of this sort would get sent to my registered email address.

Notification {client_id: "p5cqbnCAeg5LtOM1kQTvM1sayh4e1cadTsWptA7WOrK3OQfG"
type: 3
parameters {
  key: "failedsms_number"
  value: "************"
}
parameters {
  key: "failedsms_text"
  value: "Test for avast"
}
4: 1465976759
}
NotificationType.PASSWORD_CHECK_FAILURE
[key: "failedsms_number"
value: "*************"
, key: "failedsms_text"
value: "Test for avast"
]

All I did was call up my pin from my android and logged into avast anti-theft to kickstart my anti-theft.

I am guessing that because of a sim change or phone being abruptly switched off due to lack of battery initiates avast anti-theft to get activated and start sending all text sms as emails to the registered email account.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I'm sorry about this. It's caused by Avast Anti-Theft which is searching for commands in text messages. Avast Anti-Theft can be managed remotely using text messages, that's why it search for it's commands there. But some small bug is causing to send you e-mail information everytime it fails to find any.

I'm sorry about it. We're investigating and we will fix it as soon as possible.

Hi mohapatra.abhinav, now it shouldn't happening in production.
