Performed a routine update (not a clean install) over the top of version 2016.11.2.2262 and this is what happened:  (See attached below)
Settings within avast were changed without user interaction and changed from their default settings:
I caught the Silent Mode change only by opening the avast gui and then proceeded to check to see what else had changed.
  • Silent Mode has never been enabled
  • Digital Checking and Load Avast Services has never been enabled

I can conformed this with Silent Mode(https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=187525.msg1319250#msg1319250)
FYI:-It was happend only in  2016.12.1.2271 BETA with me.
but it was fixed in  12.1.2272 BETA(+ Fixed issue with user settings reset to default after program update)

Thanx.

Forgot to add that to create a rescue disk still requires avast self-defense be disabled in this newest version.

The 'Load avast services only after loading other system services, doesn't mean you are unprotected startup.

The key words I have highlighted as it only effects Windows system services not every service. This is remained unchanged (at its default setting), unchecked and I did an update from the avastUI of 11.2.2262. This was the same for both my XP Pro and win7 installations.

I can't recall if the 'Skip checking of digital signatures was off by default previously (but I suspect so), if a file is detected as infected, I can't see the value of checking its digital signature.

Silent mode remained off on my program update.

Why can't this be fixed permanently ???
Seems to get fixed with one update and broken with the next. Not good.  :(

Why did the toast window was removed when the virus scan is running? It was very useful to see the scan progress...
As I can see we don't need to activate free version every year anymore and it's awesome!

It's still counting down the days... Also, the scan toaster is still there. I just don't understand the design behind it. Minimize the main scan GUI and you'll get it. Close it and it'll be gone. !?

Hi RejZoR, can you please be more specific? Where I can't find the information about remaining time, the registration window doesn't provide this info now.

Yes, now I see the toaster is visible when the main winodw is minimized but I'd like to see the old behavior when it was visible even after closing the main window.

Thanks,
Andrey

Checking the Registration tab in my avast free has a bit that is missing from your screenshot, Current Status, Current registration will expire on and Date of registration.

Try a repair of avast.

Thanks David, I tried to repair my avast installation with no luck. I'm not alone, because another user asked about it in Russian sub-forum too.

Thanks David, I tried to repair my avast installation with no luck. I'm not alone, because another user asked about it in Russian sub-forum too.

You're welcome, I had hoped that the repair would resolve it as some have found it did for some other screens either blank or incomplete.

Do you have any other screens that aren't displaying correctly ?

I updated on another PC a few days ago and actually the time it takes for Avast to start after logon has increased this version.

I gave it a few days to settle, ran a full scan etc, repair and no luck.

@ DavidR,
Sorry, did not mean to say I was without protection for a while with the 'Load other system services before avast' but was pointing out the change from default 'unticked box' to a ticked box where this behavior would be in effect without my express consent or action.  I wanted see if anyone else noted this...esp. since I used the update method rather than the normal clean install I use.  Long-winded way of saying this should not have happened if it wasn't set that way to begin with.

That's avast stating checking the box could result in less or no protection during startup.

Also seeing a SFC scan failure rate of avast files:  https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=186903.0  Also several issues with Task Scheduler not running any scheduled tasks whatsoever.  (Seems to be running now, but notably fewer tasks are running successfully.)  Win 10 Home 64-bit

Hi,
I have just revisited this issue based on another topic I have been involved in. It was related to Agnitum's Outpost Firewall, where someone was having startup issues and they had tried the 'Load avast services only after loading other system services' option and that seemed to resolve it.

I was somewhat surprised at that, but on looking deeper there is an Agnitum file that is loaded and it is as a SYSTEM user. So it may just allow those to creep in under the radar. That said the actual time spent waiting for system services shouldn't be great, more likely fractions of a second compared to many seconds or longer.
