Not a big fan of Automatic silent updates, but I have it locked to manual like always.
<snip>

Why not set it to 'Ask when an update is available,' that isn't automatic and you get a notification when an update is available.

Because I usually always know when an update is released since I check this forum daily, and because 1 less popup, the better

Had I known that, I wouldn't have suggested it ;)

Neither of these have worked since downgrading to 11.2.2262 - it prompts me to reboot to install 12.1.2272 even when I set it as the first thing changed.

Why the hell is avast! constantly failing to be registered with the damn Security Center? Either it fails to do that from start or it just randomly decides to lose it. On tablet, it just decided to lose connection and it's showing in Security center like it's turned OFF where in reality it isn't...  ::)

I haven't even turned it off. I just powered up my Windows tablet and there was a white notification for events. I opened it up and it said AV/anti-spyware was disabled. It wasn't.

I've had the same problem on my laptop after the last update to the latest preview build.
Usually requires a repair to fix. Sometimes just a reboot takes care of this annoyance.

That's because the answer (workaround) was for those using 12.1.2272, were future updates would be automatically downloaded and applied. In 12.1.2272 (and later) these settings are meant to be retained on future program updates.

Why is Avast moving its stuff to the cloud? I do not use the cloud nor do I trust it, why can Avast not just stay on the computer where it is used. If there is an outage, then from what I have understood the new build to be, if you wanted to use the time to do a full scan it will not be able to.

CyberCapture is just a addition to what already was in avast.
