It works for some but not for others. The only way to tell is to try it.  :(
No, thanks. ;) I tried several times after release, then went back to the previous non-Nitro version and will stick to that until they fix the issue.

I would have tried this before going back to an old version, disable the avast self-defence module before running the 'Back up settings' function (enable on completion). I believe that worked for some of those experiencing this issue.

Thanks Bob, this is without doubt a right pain in the rear. Whilst it doesn't effect either of my two systems XP Pro SP3 and win7 SP1 32bit (just checked this one again) OSes.

I think i'm going to have to go back to the older version.  I have spent most of the last 2 hours crashing out of a game that i had an event in.  Never had this before also all the webpages i try and use come up firewall and proxy problems and then they go to the page.  If anyone has any ideas i would be grateful to hear them thanks

If you turn off the Windows firewall, do the errors stop? If so, check what the firewall is blocking and fix it.

Hi,  just found out remote assistance no longer available.  This is really annoying as I use it on a regular basis whenever  my extended family run into pc issues.   >:(.  it was a major reason for recommending that they all use avast
