avast! 12.1.2272 Backup Settings function broken
« on: June 21, 2016, 10:10:32 PM »
I've tried to update my custom settings and found out it's broken. It's impossible to export (backup) settings anywhere. I've tried desktop, my documents and even secondary non-system partition, always DENIED error message. Can someone else try exporting settings if you guys get the same error...

There has been a problem on many systems backing up settings (not on my system) prior to this 12.1.2272 build. The previous work around was to disable the self-defence module, looks like they didn't resolve this previous issue.

Just checked it on this build and no problems on this XP Pro 32bit system.

Exported settings w/o error on Win10 64bit system. Its a custom config, not complete bloatware install. Was also successful exporting the settings before updating from 11.2.2262 on the same system. I have a Win7 64bit box that has not been updated yet from 11.2.2262 (custom config) that also exported w/o error. Self defense enabled on both systems.

Nope, disabling Self Defense didn't change anything.

What's even more bizarre, it used t work fine with all older versions, but with 12.1, not anymore. Any idea rom avast! team how to figure out what exactly is causing this? What is denying avast! the access to file system to backup settings to a file?

No problems with backing up settings on 3 Win 7 Pro SP1 laptops.  Also, updates went smoothly preserving previous settings.

Uhh, the export setting seems broken, I've just done a clean install.

Well, there's got to be something affecting it then which denies the access???

So, it works for most, but some of us are affected. I wonder what's causing this. Two of us that have this problem run Windows 10 64bit. Which seems to be the only known thing in common.

Rejzor, do you use CryptoPrevent?

I have a feeling it could be that causing the access denied issues.

Nope. avast! is the only security software on my system.

Only thing that has radically changed between then and now is the OS installation source. Before I was using Windows 10 downloaded from Windows Media Creation Tool and now I'm using Microsoft's image from their webpage.

I do have two bizarre issues otherwise I couldn't figure out.

I'm often getting "The stub received bad data" when executing random apps. It doesn't happen always, just here and there. Re-running apps and they suddenly work problem free. I have no clue why this is happening. And the second thing, Task Scheduler's service just stopping itself for no reason. I want to open Task Scheduler and it says my computer couldn't be found. I check the services and Task Scheduler simply isn't running. Then I start it and it works. This is on a fresh clean system. I don't know what the hell is going on.
