OK how did you managed to get that working bob or is that someones screen who is working on the fix
Make sure you're running the latest version.
Screenshot was taken right after it allowed the backup on the same system that always had the permission error.

What has change in your case I mean, it can just all of a suddenly work out of blue.
I'm using the latest version and I have try everything possible and still no go but I guess that's the randomness of this particular issue  between users :(

I would assume either the emergency updater or the VPS update fixed it maybe.

But apparently not yet for everyone.

Ya, it doesn't make  sense I have reported that again yesterday morning, but I'm sure I might not get response.

Also I have another Win7 that started this nonsense yesterday, avast should get on board :(

Yep, I also cannot export my settings but only on one of my machines, the other one works fine. Both are Win 10 x64; however, there are a few subtle differences as described below:

desktop, win 10 x64, upgraded to 12.1.2272 from a previous version, import settings works ok, export settings works ok

laptop, win 10 x64, clean install of 12.1.2272 (never had avast installed before), import settings works ok, export settings does not work ok (getting access denied).

Just for the record, I did try the safe mode, aswclear, and a complete reinstall (laptop) to no avail.

Update: So, in my previous post, I reported my desktop worked and my laptop did not. So, I started to investigate and I found an interesting discrepancy. Specifically my desktop and laptop have different builds but both are reporting as being up-to-date and I can't get the desktop (which export works on) to update to the later laptop build (which export does not work on):

Desktop build 12.1.3076.0

Laptop build 12.1.3076.6

Maybe this has something to do with why some work and some do not?

Here's hoping Avast looks into this quickly.

This is why I said worked one day and broken the next. The older version worked, the latest one does not.
Please Avast get this stuff sorted out. Since you now have auto update on by default, this needs to be fixed.

I don't think that this causing the issue, maybe I don't know  I just checked and all my  win7 machines have the same version which is 12.1.3076.0 and some have that issue some don't.
I think avast should sort that out as well, how is that some of us are on that build and some not I'm sure avast will have logical explanation for that but even so problem exporting setting still exists.
