@pogo5,
What does any of this have to do with the topic of this thread "Avast Free update problem Win XP SP3 32 bit system"
Sorry, he mentioned something in passing and I answered it.
OK, back on topic, then. One of my XP machines uses Avast 2015 and can't be updated due to the aforementioned hardware restriction. I, too, have noticed that the definitions won't now update either. Thanks mainly to you, I now know how to download a new database manually.
So far, so good.
But I've noticed that, with streaming updates turned on (I always turned them off before), I get several updates per day, while the reported current update version remains the same. Normal auto updates don't work, streaming updates do. So..not being an expert on Avast, I've a couple of questions:
1. Am I right in thinking that streaming updates append entries one by one to the database?
2. Does that mean that, with streaming updates, I don't need any longer to download vpsupd.exe?
3. If I do, is there any way to tell if the version of vpsupd available is newer than the one I already have, before downloading it? It's quite a big download.
