Avast preventing Windows 10 upgrade.
« on: July 07, 2016, 03:49:33 AM »
I've been an Avast user and supporter for years. As a computer repair technician I frequently perform upgrades from Windows 7, 8, 8.1 to Windows 10. During the last 2 months I have had to uninstall Avast prior to upgrading to Windows 10 as an installation error always occurs. When Avast is removed, Windows 10 installs fine. After installation I can re-install Avast without issue. Is anyone else having this problem? As I mentioned this has only very recently occurred. Upgrades performed 3 to 6 months ago had no issues. Now I am finding that this occurs every time. Many of these installation errors occur with a fresh install of Windows 7 and the only other software being Avast. Once Avast is removed, no upgrade errors occur.

Strange, everything seems to be working to million of users...
Maybe we need to check Windows Updates logs.

Latest Avast version causes corruption that sfc file checker and other utilities cannot repair. Tried uninstall of Avast with avastclear and sfc still showed corruption.

Only way I was able to upgrade was to load a system image prior to the latest Avast upgrade.

Same issue, though I was able to upgrade to Windows 10, but bombarded by "threat detected" issues:
Windows 7 to Windows 10
64 bit
Avast Internet Security product installed and operational
No other security software installed at time of upgrade
In years past, system had McAfee installed

Upon install of Windows 10, Avast reported many issues of infection of router and other issues. Attempted install of Avast license files stated they were "corrupted" when downloaded from profile on Avast.com.

Why would anyone leave a antivirus program installed and running, when upgrading to a newer Windows version?
That's just asking for trouble!
..but then again, so is "upgrading" to Win10 in any case.

Really? No problem here from Win 7 /64 to Win 10 /64.
Only a large amount of time to search for the proper source, to make a DVD, and for the Upgrade process.
Nothing from Avast ...

One really problem left that sucks: XP-Mode doesn't run under VMware. And I need that.
