As Vlk said somewhere else, the acquisition is under inspection of regulators to see if everything is in order. Until that is done, they can't really release any statements. When regulators give a clear go, acquisition will be confirmed and carried out. After that, you can expect more public announcements about the deal itself and future plans for both, avast! and AVG.

Interesting, they've decided to keep both brands separate while merging the protection capabilities. A bit surprising move, but then again not so much. If they sacked AVG, people who loved it might jump ship with competitor. Where now, nothing will really change except AVG getting even better protection wise. So, existing avast! users will be happy as well as existing AVG users. Things may change in the future, but for now, it kinda sounds logical.

Can't wait to see what they plan for early 2017 as mentioned in the PR release. AVG as well as avast! made huge strides in protection, being merged, they might actually become the most serious threat to BitDefender and Kaspersky who ruled all the protection tests so far. It's going to be interesting for sure :)

I am curious what this means for Avast's wish to go to the Stock Market, as AVG has already a notation on it.

One thing that avast can learn from avg is how to use ads for their products.

I guess it is just how you look at it.
Kaspersky also is protecting over 400m users.
And with the amount of avast users dropping for many months....

It really looks not that good.

Also why is Avast still using SMF? Why not lets say XenForo which alot more Community related things like status updates for example.

Yeah it's certainly a very strong colour, the Avast forum has always had to much white space as well and I find it give me headaches after to long here.

And if we are to still keep using SMF it should at least be updated to the latest version 2.0.12

SMF isnt the only thing that needs an Upgrade. And SMF sucks BTW

Nothing wrong with SMF itself, it works fine and other features could be added to it to make it more usable like Simple Portal.
