Help.. Can't start avast
« on: January 20, 2006, 12:28:59 PM »
Hello,

I'am french..  :-\ and not very good in english but i try...  ;)
So, i've got a problem when i start avast : "Application cannot load skin. Function usiGetSkin Failed"  >:(
In the FAQ of this site i find an answer  :D:

I have installed 'avast! 4 Home' and everytime I try to open it, I get an error message stating: "unknown error message", "Application cannot load skin. Function usiGetSkin Failed". How can I fix this?

A:

   1. Select START -> RUN...
   2. Enter the following command:
          * If you have Windows NT or 2000:
            C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
          * If you have Windows 95, 98 or ME:
            C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
          * If you have Windows XP:
            C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
   3. Press OK (or Enter).
   4. A message saying that the file was successfully registered should appear.

But when i do this, i can read an error message :
Dll registrerserver in ACTSKIN4.OCX had failed. The code send is 0x800200009  >:(  ???

Please help me...  :-[
Thanks  :'(

Hi Val_signs,

Do you have any programs that block registry changes?  Things like TeaTimer, PrevX, ProcessGuard, Microsoft Antispyware?

Try disabling those kinds of programs first, then repair the avast! installation:

Open add/remove programs in the control panel, highlight "avast! antivirus", click change/remove, then select repair.
