It would appear to be something similar to what happened to some Azureus users where they allow users to connect to each other and allows one user to tell another user what port they are choosing to listen on, unfortunately some people choose to use email ports to communicate.

Since avast's email scanner is monitoring these ports it intercepts this communication and because it is expecting email protocol traffic and a timeout occurs.

Check out this Thread http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=18105.0
and this post in particular http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=18105.msg154105#msg154105

Although the above rlates to Azureus, the same would appear to be happining to you, so hopefully there should be a way to block this communication on the email ports as in the above post.

Umm.. I think Utorrent have no such option to bypass the scanned port like Azurus.

Thanks very much anyway.

No problem, welcome to the forums.

I don't know if they have a Utorrent forum if so you could pose the question there using the info you have gained here and in the thread about Azureus and see if there is some way of achieving this.

You may well get the response it's avast's fault, but other AVs that monitor the email/news ports 25, 110, 119 and 143 could experience the same issues. The ports I mentioned are assigned for email/news usage so if conforming to standards shouldn't be used for other purposes. Unfortunately many don't know this.
