Thanks for the update, I also think Components tab is a good addition. :)

Thanks for the video Bob, nice that avast have made it easier for a user to have a minimal installation and not have to go through control panel to uninstall a component.

My pleasure. Hopefully Avast will also bring back a useful UI to make getting to features easier or, expand the right click menu of the Avast system tray icon

Minimal protection should also include "Mail Shield"! These are the basic shields that should be selected with Minimal protection. Reason for this, if there is malware that is sending spam e-mails or infected e-mails out from the computer, Mails Shield would/could intercept it. And it's not really using more memory or anything if you have it selected.

Not everyone are using Mail Shield so it should be out for minimal protection.Nothing wrong with it.

And you entirely missed my point which I also explained in my post. You don't have any performance penalty or higher resources consumption if you have Mail Shield installed. But you do lose protection if you don't, even if you don't use POP3 mail clients.

In fact, considering many features depend on these components (like CyberCapture), I really don't understand why they are even removable. All 3 shields should ALWAYS be installed. You could disable them like you can now, but only for troubleshooting. This isn't avast! v4.x where shields were actual separate components. They aren't anymore.

The rest of components and tools should remain modular as they are now.

I have some odd issue with this beta.

1. I had build 2272 installed (AIS).
2. Rand online installer of this beta
3. After restart, no avast processes/UI visible.

I did also remove avast completely, restarted PC and ran removal tool. Restarted PC again and made custom beta install with file/web shield + firewall and sandbox. Same thing, no visible processes/UI, even after restart. I did repair install - same thing.

Now I uninstalled completely again and used removal tool too. Installed 2272 and I can see it's working now.

Windows 8.1 x64, I5-6440HQ laptop with FHD screen.
Any dev can contact me directly via PM for any logs :)

//
Tried to upgrade over 2272 again with the same result - avast icon is visible but does not open UI. When clicked, it disappears.

@RejZoR,
I agree with you on a default install of the MailShield during a minimal install. I don't agree that it should always be installed.
I use only online email. I have no need for the MailSield and opt not to install it using the custom install.
Unless the MailSield does something other than scan emails downloaded to your system, why install it if you don't download emails to your computer ???

Is anyone even reading what I post? Go back and read my two posts. I've explained why Mail Shield is preferred to be installed even if you're not using POP3 mail clients.

Your posts were read and I don't see anything that compels the use of a function that isn't used.
I wish you would make your argument clearer. I'm not against installing it. I just can't find anything that warrants it's install.

The same reason why not installing Web Shield makes CyberCapture ineffective ENTIRELY. But no one mentions that and I know many people who just install File System Shield, not knowing this also disables large portion of protection. We don't even know what is tied to Mail Shield, but from context aspect (which Vlk mention quite often), it's the only component monitoring POP3/IMAP traffic, providing context for e-mail traffic in general (so you actually know that malware was sneaking through those subsystems). Which is used by spam malware as well as e-mail worms. Mail Shield ensures monitoring of that infection vector as well.

Are you inferring that not installing the MailShield will make CyberCapture less effective ???
I don't use POP3 or IMAP.
