I'm some problems running and updating Avast. I can't update anything from the program, receiving the message: "The stub cannot run installer/updater executable 'C:\Program Files\AVAST software\Avast\setup\Sfx\instup.exe' (code 0x3)". I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, but can't because of the above error.

I've attempted to use avastclear.exe in safe mode and the same message was shown.

I've attempted a clean install, and everything went the same way.

I found a very similar problem in the forum (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=168069.0) and the conclusion was that I might need a more tailored fix. I ran a FRST scan and have attached the results. Hopefully, I can find some help!

If you want to try something...

Download the attached fixlist.txt and place it in the same folder as where you have Farbar.
Start Farbar and choose "fix".
After doing so, reboot and see if avast is working again.
If not, perform a repair of avast and check again if it is working.
If still not working, perform a clean installation of avast.

Start Farbar and choose "fix".
After doing so, reboot and see if avast is working again.
If not, perform a repair of avast and check again if it is working.
If still not working, perform a clean installation of avast.


thanks for try to help me, but don't work. Avast doesn't work again and y couldn't perform a clean installation

sorry but i don't have any more, finally i could solve the problem making a system restore. I had to reinstall some programs but i don't care.
Any way i think that my problem was something related to cryptoprevent, it takes control of the policies group

This can also happen to those of us who use WinAntiRansome if Avast isn't granted an exception.
