Hi Avast community.

Free avast antivirus update is not possible on my  32bit CPU anymore:

CPU Type:
AMD Athlon XP, 1533 MHz  1800+  palomino
IA SSE         supported
IA SSE 2      not supported
OS WindowsXP SP-3 32bit

last working version:

program version: 10.4.2233
antivirus definition version: 160616-1

These updates do not work anymore:
versions from 26.jul.2016
files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe  / program offline updater
avast_free_antivirus_setup_online_cnet_2.exe                          / online updater
files.avast.com/ivps9x/vpsupd.exe                                             /virus def updater

antivirus definition updates plus program version updates
from within the avast software stop working with this file
prod-pgm.vpx.dld  100% progress

avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe   start problems:
windowsxp app event  log:
application failure  avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
Version 0.0.0.0,
failed Modul ,
Version 0.0.0.0,
fault address 0x00000000.

After continuing tests I could use  vpsupd.exe and update to
latest virus definition version 160726-1
Solution: Only with online connection possible!

Just one problem with that:
This is the offline installer version....???

There is not much "Protection"  installed other than OS plus avast , OS firewall disabled.

Greetings.

The problem is reported by multiple users.
Yet, I haven't seen any response from avast to the posts. :(

It only seems to affect versions 2015 of avast.
Both the consumer versions as well as the cloud versions.

Hi Avast community.

Free avast antivirus update is not possible on my  32bit CPU anymore:

<snip>

I would have thought that avast version 10.4.xxxx should be fine, it is only recently avast 2016 12.1.xxx that has a requirement that your CPU supports SSE-2 and it doesn't look like your CPU support it.

My CPU on my XP Pro SP3 (32bit) system supports SSE-2 and I have no problem updating with the latest version 12.1.2272.

Given the data you posted it looks like you were trying to install the latest version - which is most likely because your CPU doesn't support SSE-2.

David, the vps update stopped working a few weeks ago for many (all?) users with a 2015 version.

Update downloads prod-pgm.vpx and than it stops.
No error, no other message.
It just hangs there.

I'm not sure if it only happens on systems that run XP or also on other systems.

Here is another report of the problem.

I'm not sure if 10.4.xxxx is 2015 ?

But as sure as eggs are eggs with no SSE 2 support in the CPU the latest version won't work. As can be seen the OPs information this was from trying to install the latest avast version from different sources.

There was an issue some time back with manual VPS Updates and XP (not suffered on my XP system), but I also think that this had been resolved.
