... Rolling back is the answer I have been searching for the last 90 min.

Be extremely cautious as to what you find online and download from the web.  During this period of vulnerability, there will be unscrupulous elements that would be taking advantage of this situation and flooding the net with malicious downloads.

I'm not going to surf any other website but the Avast forum until this is fixed.  I'm going to play it safe, but it's a shame because who knows when this will be fixed.

Thank you Avast for always working so hard to give us such great and current antivirus software and security features on both PC and mobile.

Unfortunately, this latest version came with a pretty serious bug, it seems, that for me (and many others) broke it and caused us to be unprotected. I have documented my fix (i.e. downgrading to a previous version) in the following post:

[SOLVED!] YOU ARE UNPROTECTED. avast background service is not runing.

To be fair, this is the first time I have ever experienced a bug that caused my Avast to become completely non-functional in my nearly a decade of using your products. Keep up the great work!  8)

Watch out for incoming email messages too...  I've been receiving a lot of ransom-ware attacks via email attachments lately.  Avast was doing a fairly good job of detecting them.

Don't bother on twitter either, they are just posting your typical dismissive reply.  I seriously worry they where compromised somehow and all our data is just now out there.

Adding another broken AVAST update,

User registration subscription status says  ACTIVE,
all other fields are BLANK,

Program version says 12.2.2276 (build 12.2.3126.2)
RELEASE DATE SAYS 12/31/1969 7:00:00 PM

--
I read Matthew's post to correct / restore previous version ( THANKS Matthew! ) - I have recommended and support dozens of AVAST clients locally.

When WILL THIS BE FIXED BY AN INTERNAL (NON USER INTERVENTION) ROLLOUT UPDATE ?

If I have to visit and disable SAFEPRICE on dozens of clients, this will be the LAST update installed.

A long time AVAST customer who is major unhappy at the moment.

Wow...  so I installed the latest version of Avast on two Win 10 Home 64 bit computers.  Both have the random GUI popups, one has the unprotected error, both installed browser extensions in Chrome without my permission (yes, I did a custom install) that I had to manually remove.  I knew I should've waited a bit before updating, seems to be the safer thing to do nowadays with each new release of Avast.

Is anyone else having issues where it is saying that you are unprotected and the firewall is unavailable?
After doing the update I'm having that same issue.

It would appear that this new version Avast Free 12.2.2276 is incompatible with Malwarebytes Anti Ransomware 0.9.16.484 beta in both Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

I have reverted to Avast Free 12.1.2272 and the problem with Avast no longer exists.

An error message says "Background service is not running"

C:\Program Files\Avast Software\Avast\VisthAux.exe
The request is not supported

I did see an avast warning 'You are unprotected' after completing a clean install and checked to see if the license file was inserted.  It was not.  But I also did not see a page asking for the license file to be inserted as I usually do.

Inserting the current license file removed 'You are unprotected' warnings, followed by a reboot of system.  Running 12.2.3126.0 version.

Every time i tried to insert a license file it told me they were corrupted. I have noticed it keeps saying my 'trial' has ended... I have tried the clean install approach after using AvastClear to strip it out during safe mode.

Not recognizing antivirus, passwords reused in Safezone browser, task icon opens window exposing all my passwords,  myavast has critical errors - I gave up and deleted and uninstalled every remnant of Avast from my PC. Using Windows Defender for the moment. I will wait to see the Windows 10 (64bt) update on August 1 before doing a clean install, IF I even do a reinstall. Doubt I will reinstall the Safezone browser since I went from feeling secure to being completely vunerable.

You didn't use the program update function. You did an over the top install and used the default install.
But I did use the program update function, and I'm sure I did not have the SafePrice add-on in my browser before (I'm using only Firefox).
Still I see Firefox asking permission to install the add-on.  Petr Chytil said something about an emergency update early in this thread, but to be honest, I don't get what it means for my situation.

Anyway, the "you are unprotected" thing is more urgent.

This version does not work. Release dates shows 1/01/1970 1:00:00 Virus definition: unkown no connection established.
So at the moment many are unprotected.
It indicate background service is not active but avast service is running. When you try to start the service, you get the notification that some program want to stop the service.
Update shows a new version but no update is doen.
How can I get the previous working version back?
