Regarding SafePrice.
By introducing more components in the setup and new options in the Settings > Components menu, we are trying to make it easier for our users to choose which components they want to use.
For example with SafePrice plugin, user had to look for it in each browser's settings. In this new version, by deselecting the SafePrice component in setup, plugin is immediately uninstalled from all browsers.
It is unfortunate you had to remove it once again. However, from now on, it should be much easier to control what is installed and what is not.

It is a shame that the user has to go to Control Panel > Programs & Features > Avast > Uninstall/Change just to remove a component.

I had thought that this new Components feature within the avastUI > Settings the user would be able to uninstall the component, not just disable it. So now it seems a bit redundant, not to mention there are no options for both browser extensions in the Components feature within the avastUI.

We are planning to add browser extensions to the Components menu in one of the upcoming releases.

That is fine, but just adding them to the components feature isn't going to help much as you can't uninstall a module from the components menu/feature in the UI. That currently only allows the user to disable (for a duration), no option to remove/uninstall.

thekochs, DavidR,

the SafePrice browser extension component is already in this version's custom Setup. So, user can add/remove the component via custom installation or using the Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus > Change operation.

As an even easier way of installation/uninstallation of this component, we are planning to add it to Avast Settings > Components menu. Even in the current new version, components can be as well uninstalled using the new Componets menu (expand the component and choose Uninstall Component action).

I rolled back to previous version of Avast....the idea of these silent installs and other bugs has put HUGE red flag up for me......I'll wait to see if all this is truly a "bug" by hopefully corrected in next month's version.

 :-[
What silent installs are you talking about ???

SafePrice.......you are ready this thread ?  ???
Silent only if you don't listen. Always use Custom Install
Follow that simple rule and nothing is silent. Everyone should do that regardless of what they install.

What I didn't see or realise that it could be expanded, I had only clicked on the ON button and got the dropdown list of delay/stop options.

Now that it is there (or rather I have found it), then this is a more complete and useful function.

Thank you.

Is "Custom" available in over-the-top updates ?

Yes. The only thing that doesn't is choosing the program update function.
That option however should honor you previous settings and installed components.

That is what I meant by OTT......I think you are meaning running the installer over an existing install ?
If so, "Custom" should really be available in the Program Update.....or what is the point of using that in program update if Avast puts new items in.
I get they are putting in the Components section but that is really not a "uninstall".....that is a "disable".
Plus, don't want these items to ever be on the PC in first place.
.....with the above it means a "backup of settings"......full uninstall with avastclear, then new install from EXE, then restore backup....each month.
I think Avast can do better than that...don't you ?

Oh, OK...thx........IMHO not acceptable if Avast is going to sneak items in through the Program Update.

Agreed......but that is not lack of "listening" it is having to read every flipping post on this Forum as part of my daily routine to catch a knowledgable snipit (thx BTW).
To me, the "issue" here is the same old cr@p from Avast in that as soon as you turn your back they are trying to slip something in.
Simple solution, put "Custom" in the flow of the program update...........or user needs to always put program update on "Manual"....and when see new update, read every post/thread there to see if that new monthly release has some new nasty sneak-ware, then wait until that is removed by all the complaining, then do a backup, then avastclear, then clean install with CUSTOM and only check basic items.
....ugh, seems like this may be just a little too cumbersome for the masses ?  :'(

You didn't use the program update function. You did an over the top install and used the default install.

I did a "Program Update" and wrongly concluded Avast would respect my previous CUSTOM install selections, or more importantly non-selections.
They did not.........thus, a "silent" install........plain and simple.......but as you noted.....from "Program Update".........

I just deleted all my passwords. SafeZone WAS my default browser but changing after I finish this. When signing on to my laptop, I was automatically updated with Avast New Version. I already was using Avast anti-virus pro and Safezone w/Passwords. The problem is in PASSWORDS. I went from status good to average  in passwords and ALL my passwords changed to reused from most being strong. Trying to add back one of the websites I just deleted, it displayed reused. I worked hard on updating most of my passwords the last couple months with most being different and unique. Now I feel there has been some sort of leak with conflicting and contradicting information shown. Have my passwords been compromised? Is this a ploy to get me to purchase an upgrade by using the Improve link in the Password icon? Either makes me go from loving Avast SafeZone to despising this fox in the hen house approach.

:( Same thing happened to me. I have 77 passwords stored in the PW Manager of Avast Free, they are all different, one for each site and yet the 77 are flagged as reused. I hope that it's only a false positive or a bug and that it will be corrected soon with a new update of the program. Thanks in advance to let us know what's the problem.

Sorry to hear about SafePrice.......thought Avast Marketing guys had gotten out of those nasty habits.  :-[

I have suggestion for Avast icon on system tray.
The symbol/logo needs to be "GREEN" if all OK, "ORANGE" if pending message and "RED" if urgent issue.
Avast also needs to return the mouse over dialog of database #/date......YES, I know it is buried within and if you are streaming all OK.
My suggestions above are for better typical user experience.

Give you some examples.........I don't go to every PC every day.....so some of the popups I may never see.
I have all Avast set to manual program update but notify me (I don't trust Avast anymore on their silent sneak ware pushes)....I assume that means some popup to tell me.
In my case and others you have to open Avast to find out details.
A simple green icon with mouse over re-affirming database ver/date is quick way to communicate.
An orange icon means I should open to see message.....example, there is new program update or my database is over week old......good simple alert system.
Red of course I tink you may have with the "X" and all......
....point of above is simple thing like this I think would make most of the millions of users feel more confident without the need to extra work/monitoring.

Just a suggestion..........

Hi Thekochs,

A while ago ( March 2015, to be precise ) I did suggest the following to the Avast team :
"""Hello,

I'm back on the track concerning the Avast advice, notification, pop up windows.

Coming back home after a long period, booting my home PC, and pointing on the Avast icon, the pop up windows provides the following information : “Avast Free Antivirus – You are protected” (within a green background pop up windows) !
How can I be protected with an old engine version (2015_10_0_2208_712) and a database being several weeks old ? I'm NOT for sure !!!

Why don't we get the engine version as well as the database version installed, to be displayed (as it use to be the case with an earlier release of Avast); then the user is advised he needs to upgrade/update prior doing anything else !
Not every machine is hooked up to the Web 24/7 ! And in that case, any external device connected to that PC could badly contaminate the system !

Another feed back from a lot of different type of users (and different nationalities), is about the database updates pop up windows and sounds notification/advice missing !
Since certain users found the process annoying, it sounds it was decided unilaterally to get rid of that function …
Gee, if some guys don't like it, they can always disabled the sounds and play with pop up display time using the settings options. And everybody will be happy, since these functions  seemed to be useful to a lot of persons.

So if we could foresee something like :

- When pointing to the Avast icon (task bar) :

Engine version : (last version)
Database version : (last version)
On a GREEN background pop up windows. >>>     Everything is OK

Engine version : (OUTDATED version)
Database version : (last version )
On a ORANGE background pop up windows. >>>     Engine item obsolete

Engine version : (last version version)
Database version : (OUTDATED version)
On a YELLOW background pop up windows. >>>     Database item obsolete

Engine version : (OUTDATED version )
Database version : (OUTDATED version)
On a RED background pop up windows. >>>     Both items obsolete.

- When the database update is completed, get the “old fashion” pop up windows and sound back in business.

Thanks for the great job, you guys are doing, and I/we hope you take theses remarks into consideration.

Cheers.
Pat
"""
Sounds like it matches your proposal ...
But at that time, it looked like the team was not ready for that type of improvement.
Maybe this time, they might be.
Cheers.

Pat
