Avast has already acknowledged that those program options should not have been available in the Free version.
Your version most likely had the items removed since they are part of the paid version.
You can always download and install the paid version of you choice form here:

I cannot install the Anniversary Update on my new computer, I get a SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED message and the system is restored to the previous build.  Uninstalled Avast and no problem whatsoever. Oddly enough it updated perfectly on my 6 year old machine without a hitch and running same version of the Avast, the latest.

Windows Defender

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere but an observation since the latest version of Avast  - Windows Defender is now blocked by group policy - error code 800704ec. This occurred immediately after update. Even if this rectified by registry editor it is re-blocked on startup and HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender disable spyware key value changed back. Up until the latest version this was not the case. Not a big deal I guess in that maybe shouldn't be running with Avast concurrently but I would like someone to confirm that this is intended.

Yay!  Another update that brings the automatic, unprompted installation of unwanted extras!
At least the SafeZone debacle from a few months ago was just unwanted software.  SafePrice is clearly a malicious shopping browser add-on!
I am now uninstalling Avast from all of my computers!

Edit:
Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention my Windows 10 upgrade experience!

After the Windows upgrade, Avast required me to click an "update" button before it would work again.
It automatically installed ALL of its components without prompting, despite the fact that I only had the FileShield component installed before the Windows upgrade.
Come on guys!  If you are just going to ignore what the user says they want, then why bother asking during the first installation?

cjordan600,
I am sorry about the safeprice installation during the update. It is a bug, which is already fixed in the upcoming version. Yesterday, it was released to beta channel:

What happened to Browser protection? Is it replaced by Browser Extension? Also what is Antispam? Thanks to anyone who can explain these.

The Browser Protection, has now split into the two Browser Extension/s two separate browser add-ons/extensions.

You don't say what avast version you have, but the Anti-spam function is only on certain paid avast versions. I would say an anti-spam is fairly clear it filters emails that it considers to be spam.

That said those using MS Outlook email client could be using the avast MS Outlook plug-in, which I believe also filters spam.

Thanks for your help, sorry about the double post. I am running the Free avast latest, or at least I will be as I was one of the ones with the Skylake problem. Will be installing patched version soon. I was confused about the Browser Protection which I ha in last version. I will now check Browser Extension on Custom install.

Yes the Skylake problem should be resolved soon.

Having the old Browser Protection split into two gives greater flexibility, certainly for those that don't want the SafePrice extension.

The interesting part that you got the AntiSpam function in the free version (avast Internet Security and Premier versions normally). This is another bug (due to be squashed) where some people have had paid options installed in the free version.

Hi Petr,

Just giving you an update to your original post - as far as I can tell with the Anniversary Update - the problem wouldn't of been detected anyway as all builds on Microsoft's end were pretty much stable. Since Windows 10 RTM'd last year, every update in the Insider Channel did the updates flawlessly. Even after I got 14393 (the RTM of the Anniversary update) Avast was running fine (this was roughly 2 weeks ago).

It wasn't until I saw Avast had been updated that I started to get the BSODs, and knew straight away there was something with the update that was the problem. The problem was, I couldn't log anything in Windows as it would reset to the last known good configuration, and I couldnt even get into Windows in Safe Mode.

Anyway, I dunno how you guys and girls found the problem, but im glad you all did and more than anything, glad that its been fixed with minimal effect on other people. Well done to everyone involved.

Also thank you to the kind gentleman who helped me out with getting my system back to working order. (Forget his name, its buried in the posts now)
