Problem with Avast after this latest update
« on: July 30, 2016, 04:43:00 AM »
Yes I see that many have the problem with this version. I have tried:

1. right click icon and choosing for it to have the shields turned off until restart --- did no good
2. restarted with safe mode turned on, ran uninstaller then re-installed it fresh and still no joy --- I have done this step 3 times now including getting rid of the registry totally

It claims that:
1. I am not registered HOWEVER when looking at settings it clearly says I am registered and it is the free version.
2. It will not turn on the 3 items that it says are turned off, even after clicking the button.
3. It says I am unprotected...and will not fix itself.

I have cleared the computers DNS several times and even tried to go under programs control panel, clicking to repair and that did work to let it know what version it is but not fixing anything else.

What can I do and is there a way to go back to the previous unbuggy version. I really do not want to try another antivirus program.

Also, I have my 3 PC's, Mac and 3 Androids with free avast but only the PC shows in my account.

I seriously think EVERY Avast user is having this issue right now, they are keeping their mouth shut on the cause, leaving us users in the dark.

Same here, I am getting this error on 3 different computers! My Win 7 64-bit SP1 desktop and (recently re-imaged) laptop, and my mom's Win 10 64-bit laptop which has no other 3rd party security software on it.

I found something interesting. When I booted up my laptop after updating Avast, the icon was normal, suggesting all was well. Then, Comodo Firewall told me avastui, wanted to connect to the internet, which I allowed. The moment the connection was established, avast donned the Red X of Doom! and all was not well. Hmm.

I am also having the same exact problems and have tried un-installing and re-installing the program three times.  Currently my laptop has no anti-virus protection.  Does Avast have a customer support team that monitors this forum?

Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB33#artTitle

I have already submitted an incident report to the "contact us" link at the bottom of the Avast main page.

I will try to do as the instructions say but I have done all the trouble shooting the articles from Avast and the web have suggested since this has happened in previous years and versions. You would think that they might keep notes so it would not do it again.

Went to this post and it was not helpful at all...it says fixed but there are many pages of the still existent problem...and yes tried the EMupdate.exe to no avail...that stupid thing did not even work

Considering that this latest build seems to be creating nothing but problems, I expect the team is busy and should be pushing out a new build asap.
Wouldn't be surprised if heads rolled with this latest release.

Download your version and install it over your current install. When finished, reboot and you're problem is solved.

No need to do that cause it is finally fised. I think it is tech support finally answered and I was told to do this again.

Please can you perform a Repair&Update of your Avast, to ensure any minor issues are resolved, and that the latest version is running.

 1. Click on Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a Program (Programs and Features, Add or Remove Programs) > Avast > Click on "Uninstall/Change" > Repair
  2. After the repair, please make sure that you have the most recent version of Avast -12.1.2276.
To do that, please open Avast and go to > SETTINGS > Update > Program > Update and update your Virus definitions as well.
  3. Restart your computer.

Now it is something I have done repeatedly all the while being told it was what it needed but it failed so many times....NOT this time

When doing the "repair" thru the Programs control panel it did its thing then you actually can see at the bottom of its window the version number, which unlike the one in the instructions showed it did update. Upon rebooting the app no longer has the red X and now says it is fully protected...shows the new version number too. Although I thought at one time you got a registration number for free programs too but I guess not...LOL

Thank you Avast for finally rectifying this situation for many of us.

Doing a repair in essence makes sure ll of the files are up-to-date. If not it does a re-install.
