I uninstalled earlier ... is it safe to re-install using a fresh copy of the offline installer?

No, you should not use the current Avast online and offline installers as they will install version 12.2.2276.
It would be better if the Avast Moderators remove the download links for now in this topic too https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=189131.0

Hi ^^

So good news  for the fix.

So current installed version will say if new update is released.

Wondering, if the fix will install automatically, since the GUI is corrupt and unable to "speak" with its services.

I think, that a full reinstall will be necessairy.

As the Avast services are actually working then the fix will likely come via and Emergency update, no need to reinstall.

If you worrie, run EICAR test to check   http://www.eicar.org/85-0-Download.html
I prefer not to download/run any 3d party software that I'm not familiar with. I'm sure that @moroni can answer this question instead.
It is not a software, it is a test string that all AV vendors use

EICAR test file info > https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EICAR_test_file

Is this hope or fact? ;-)

That's not funny.
I bought a 2 year Premier license for a bunch of money and it's not working at all from yesterday. And as i see - it's not working on whole world.
Great, it's really great.

Why don't you make the previous versions available for download for situations like this?  No matter what older version i try to get from filehippo it downloads/installs just the lastest one...

Avast have already stated that Avast is working despite what you see in the GUI, stands to reason that an emergency fix will cure it.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't want to bother myself with all of this. It should be simple enough to just wait and hear what @moroni has to say.

Of course it will if you don't disconnect from the net before installing then disable Program Updates.

No need to install older versions anyway as the current version is still protecting you.

@Avast team

Still waiting for more than 12 hr's for a new version.
How is it possible that the Avast Team releases this version? I think it is not tested before releasing.

And if your office is closed, don't release new versions before the weekend starts. There is no support in case of emergency of a very, very slow reaction.

Well, thankful that I found this here. I, too, did a update on the program yesterday and it popped up with the red X and you are unprotected. Glad to know it's a program fault and not a virus! But disappointed this is how I had to find out. No notifications.

The best of all - Avast is forcing me to BUY a licence ( I already have a 2 years licence)
That can push somebody to buy a license without a reason.
Great.

Hi
I'm french, sorry for my english  ;)

I want to precise that the concerned up-date didn't automatically downloaded, but unusualy proposed on the notification window and I downloaded manualy, with same problems as others.
My OS : windows 7 pro

If these details can help...

But,I ask you again  : why don't you automatically re-instal >the  last release  which was perfect   till you fix this wrong one ?
As I say : why do  complicated when can do simple ?  ::)
